Why Amy I getting 6v and not 12v at my fuel pump. I have replaced the pump and relay

Is this 6 volts with the pump hooked up? Also the voltage is controlled to slow the pump down when engine is not under load, if is referred as a fuel pump speed controller, what does it do?? It reduces pump voltage to slow the pump speed of rotation and this saves on gas a tiny bit and extends the life of the pump. Most auto makers have been using this system for at least the last 15 years. You have failed to provide any vehicle make, model or year so that is about all I can tell you.

Fuel pump

A fuse will blow for 2 reasons . 1) If the device has a Short in the circuit that runs through this fuse. 2) If the device draws more amperage from the power source through the fuse than the fuse will handle. ex. if a fuel pump or starter has a 20 amp fuse and the starter/fuel pump is going bad and draws 30 amps it will blow the fuse. A fuel pump on a 1996 vehicle is located in the fuel tank and is kept cool by the surrounding gas and the gas that flows through it. Overheating a fuel pump is virtually impossible. That being said there is a High probability that replacing the fuel pump and relay will fix this problem. It is quite common for this to occur in the GM vehicle of 1996. When the pump starts to fail, it draws an excessive amount of amperage and would blow the fuse. Hope you find this information useful.

From red light truck started sputtering and and stalled out

Hello. The GMC Sierra has an electric fuel pump so you should ensure that its fuses and relays are working before checking it. You may need to clean your fuel pump or replace it if your gas tank is not empty, but your vehicle has difficulty getting fuel. The GMC Sierra comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.

'94 4.0L Ford Explorer losing power

Shouldn't cost much for 10 minutes work to test fuel pressure & confirm pump condition, but do it when vehicle 's been running for a while, long enough for pump to get heated up.

Fuel is not reaching from the pump to the injectors on a 1991 S10

so the vech starts? you should be able to hear the pump running when you trun the key to the run postion. remove the gas cap place a peice of hose down the fill neck turn the key to the run postion , remeber the pump will only for 10 to 12 seconds, the pump will not run all the time until the vech starts. on the fire wall off this vech there is a 20amp fuse for the fuel pump the relay is there also . there is also red wire that has a female spade connection on it also. you can take a fused jump wire from the battery to this connection 20 amp fuse and power up the fuel pump. if the pump still dose not work warrntey the pump. good luck kdc744
