You need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , There is a problem with throttle actuator control (TAC) - electronic throttle control !
Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Overview
The throttle actuator control (TAC) system uses vehicle electronics and components to calculate and control the position of the throttle blade. This eliminates the need for a mechanical cable attachment from the accelerator pedal to the throttle body. This system also performs the cruise control functions as well.
The TAC system components include, but are not limited to the following:
?€¢
The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors

?€¢
The throttle body

?€¢
The powertrain control module (PCM)
Each of these components interface together to ensure accurate calculations and control of the throttle position (TP).

Think you may have nailed it Jeff. The codes are P0495 (High Speed Fan) and P1221 (Throttle position Sensor). What would be the easiest/cheapest way to figure out the culprit?

  • Jeff Armer Mar 29, 2015

If you tell me your email , I'd send you the gm diagnostic flow chart on how to test it but you need a scan tool !

  • Jeff Armer Mar 29, 2015

The throttle actuator control assembly has two throttle position (TP) sensors mounted within the assembly. The powertrain control module (PCM) provides individual signal, ground, and 5-volt reference circuits to each sensor. Both sensors operate within a voltage range between 0.35-4.65 volts. When the throttle is opened from 0 to 100 percent, one sensor signal voltage increases while the other decreases. The signal circuit for TP sensor 1 is referenced to ground, and the signal circuit for TP sensor 2 is pulled up to 5 volts within the PCM.

Only have an Actron CP9180. But, idon't believe that is what you are referring to. email is [email protected]

  • Jeff Armer Mar 29, 2015

You can check with a dvom - digital volt ohm meter ! Action Taken When the DTC Sets • The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails. • The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame and/or the Failure Records. • The control module commands the TAC system to operate in the Reduced Engine Power mode. • A message center or an indicator displays Reduced Engine Power. • Under certain conditions the control module commands the engine OFF.

    Ok. I have a meter.

so, basically just looking for one of those sensors to be erratic or not react at all. Is that correct?

  • Jeff Armer Mar 29, 2015

Yep, pretty much ! you'll see the voltage's on the diagnostic flow chart I sent ! let me know if you get it !

    Will do. Thanks again!

Good answer and flow of diagnoses Jeff.

You may just need a tune up
but if the MIL in on you have to check that and go from there (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

  • Jeff Armer Mar 29, 2015

It has nothing to do with needing a tune - up

Loses power after running awhile

do a compression test on the exhaust when hot use a rag and cover the exhaust and listen for hissing sounds. if you hear some then you have a leak and not getting the right back pressure from the engine. you will lose speed and use more fuel. also check the manifold you may need some to listen to this wile covering up the exhaust. if all fine then check the egr valve and check the breather pipes on the engine make sure they not blocked.

Where is the thermostat located on a 2003 Oldmobile Bravada SUV? How much should it cost to replace the thermostat? I live in Pensacola Florida.

inline 6?
Its located on the driver side of the engine under/behind the alternator. To put it bluntly they **** to replace. It wouldn't be unreasonable to see a bill for $250 to $500 depending on the part of the world you live in.

Sedona Diesel engine losses power

You must have the engine control computer scanned for fault codes, that is the first step in diagnosing this problem
