How hard is it to change the water pump on a. 2001 Toyota forerunner

system is air locked. find the highest holes in system loosen clamp too let air esape. some systems have air valve in line some were for this. check heater for heat, no heat, no water, bleed heater core holes. you can park on hill with front of engine up. keep in mind if engine is side ways put front of engine on high side of hill. check to see if fan is working good luck

use a long ratched and socket, apply force clock wise and remove belt by water pump firts, note belt routing, intall new belt on all accesories leave water pump at last until compresing tentioner, it is a litle tricky good luck

Usally the water pump need to be change when you change your timing belt which is about 60.000 to 80.000 Miles.

Try disconnecting both poles of the battery and leave it off during the night. Reconnect it. If problem persists you probably need to use a OBD2 diagostics tool/resetter.

It sounds like your power steering pump has gone out. If your resevoir has fluid and there are no power steering lines with holes in them, that would be the next option to look at. When the pump goes out the fluid cannot move throughout the tube to help give you assitance in steering. Change this pump and your power steering will be back to normal. This problem does not seem to be the fuel pump. it appears to be an electrical problem in particular your ignition. Also check the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. if the computer cannot read how much air is coming in it will try to shut down.

I would go to auto zone and get a diagram and the timing belt and do it yourself and the water pump (no it does not have to be changed everytime the timing belt is changed but if the car has over 60,000miles then it is best to change them both) it is not that hard especially if the car is not out of time just make sure you disconnect the negative side of the battery

it is not to hard to change the pump but you will need a fan clutch tool. the water pump is on the front of the motor with the fan attached to it.
