You have a problem with the fuel management or emissions ! an the light being on is telling you that , an more then likely there is a DTC - diagnostic trouble code stored in the PCM , engine computer !

Hey mike this is because the computer has set a trouble code for the emissions you can go to auto zone and ask them to scan the vehicle for you they do this for free with the hope that you will purchase the parts from them for the repairs to be made but it's not a problem if you don't so go to one or advance auto and find out what's wrong then fix it as fast as you can because your computer is in what's called open loop this is a alternate program installed on the computer to keep the vehicle running to get it to the dealer/repair shop and this is not the optimum running program & you will use a lot of fuel and possibly damage other components in the process if you keep operating in open loop O.K. so don't listen to other people who tell you that they run there car like that all the time you'll be sorry later just fix it asap!

Running lights stay on after i turn engine off

it is normal for the running lights to remain on if the doors or trunk are ajar and or to remain on for a short period of time to light your way into the house.

I had the exact same problem last year with my 2001 Alero 3.4L V6. It turned out to be that most of the copper strands in the multi-strand ground wire were broken, in the wiring harness passing over the transmission on the way to the fuel pump behind the fuel tank. The same ground wire is shared with several of the warning gages on the dash, causing several to remain lighted all the time. Both of the check engine lights, the brake light, the low oil light, and ABS light would all remain on all the time. Once the frayed portion of the ground wire above the transmission was repaired, the lights stayed out and the car started running normal, with the fuel now actually pumping gas under continuous high pressure to the engine.

My fuel economy will not come on and now my check engine light has come on

Daniel,

How many times do you intend to ask this same question? The answer remains the same regardless of how many time you ask. NOBODY online can tell you why your check engine light is on. You need to get your engine control system diagnosed to find out.

Check engine light on. had mistakenly filled w/87

Different octane fuel should have no real or lasting effect on your car except perhaps a bit of slight detonation. (computer will normally compensate for this by retarding timing a bit. Since you added higher octane fuel, the mix should be slightly higher than in the beginning. To improve octane of remaining fuel you could add 3oz of acetone to each 10 gallons of remaining fuel, or drive it and keep adding 93 every time you use up a quarter tank.
I think that you may not be having a problem with the fuel itself but may have an improperly sealing fuel cap. That would turn the light on.

1996 olds achieva check engine light remains on. Already replaced both oxygen censors and catalytic converter but the light remains on. Scan tool was placed on the o2 censors but it show "no activity".

What were the codes???
Try this, turn the ignition key to the on position and pull the ECM fuse out for 10 seconds, then place it back in and start the car.
The car may stall and let it, just restart it the second time and things should be fine. It's just the ECM leaning the Engine and Transmission.
The check engine light should be off and go for a test drive. If there is a problem the check engine light will go back on after you travel over i believe 5 MPH.
Re scan and replace or repair fault in drive train  system.

'check engine' light remains on.

You need an OBDII scanner/code reader to do this. The light is on for a reason which could be as simple as a loose gas cap, faulty sensor or as big as a failing computer, etc. The light can be shut off easily with the right tool but it will come back if the problem still exists. Best way to shut it off is to have the problem fixed and the "trouble codes" cleared. Most of the time you will have no symptoms with a check engine light but the longer you go without addressing it, the more chance there is of consequential damage to other systems/components. NOTE: Most state emissions will fail your vehicle just for the light being on...
Good luck
