When you turn the key the engine just cranks, then when you let off the key it will back fire, sprayed starter fluid in and it just backfires
You most likely have a fuel supply or pressure problem
1, a shorted injector, (this caused all the other injectors to stop working or work very inefficiently)
2, the cam sensor (the ECM uses this as a reference in timing the injectors in conjunction with the ICM)
3, the lack of fuel pressure to them (all the many things that can cause this condition)
4, a bad ignition control module ( the computer uses the signals from ICM for a reference to time the injectors as it monitors and changes the ignition timing)
5, a bad crankshaft position sensor ( the ICM is using this to set the ignition timing and to send the reference signal to the ECM)
Testimonial: "thank you that makes a lot of sense, very helpful"
There is another problem that can cause your problem also, it is a rare problem however, it can be a worn out ignition switch that will only power the ignition while in the run position and not the start position,,, so you will crank the engine and it will have no spark until you let off the key and as the engine stops turning suddenly you have spark again and bang,,,,, another is valve timing, but that will only happen if you need a timing chain or belt, and can be tested by checking compression,,, it will be very low if bad
