Dying, not starting after it's been warmed up. Runs beautiful on cold engine. Replaced plugs, wire, cap, rotor and crank position sensor, no luck.

Backfires too, dies when running anywhere from 20-50 mph without notice. Sometimes still running, but no power when I step on gas (no rpms). Fuel pump also has been replaced.

What year make an model vehicle do you have ? They haven't used cold start injectors for years , The engine computer turns on the fuel injectors for a little time ,till it sees it's warming up

I have, still won't start. Can smell fuel as if it's flooded. Once while under power and trying to stall I could smell sulpher. Could catalytic converter be the cause?

Because it's not throwing codes the dealer thought is was the CPS as well. I know now after replacing it today that it's not the problem. I'm gonna pull the air mass flow sensor tonight and clean it and see if it makes a difference.

Coolant sensor also replaced a few months ago. Was at dealership today and it wasn't throwing any codes. Mileage is about to turn over to 200,000. Check engine light does not come on when having problems.

Your car cold start valve puts more gas into the system keeping your engine running higher RPM. When you car warms up, the cold start valve will stop working and your car RPM will drop. What you could have is a vacuum hose disconnected which puts more air into your engine - therefore when you press on the gas pedal, your engine would shut off or you find lack of power and then shut off.

Thank you, I will check that.

  • Jeff Armer Mar 27, 2015

It would need to be a very large vacuum leak to cause this problem ,

1997 Toyota Corolla Long crank with cold engine normal start and operation after warm engine

hi, i would like to advice you check the electronic idle speed control valve and also check engine coolant temp sensor. The ISC (idle speed control valve) is located somewhere below the throttle valve. the engine coolant temp sensor is located near distributor. it has a two wire connection. the sensor connector is usually green

Nissan Pathfinder will not start when engine is luke warm. Please read through the details as the Fixya character counter sucks/

Please don't hurt more walls! Just kidding..what a problem. If you have the correct sensor installed and it is working correctly (check with multimeter for change in resistance when cold, warm, hot) then the signal getting to the computer must be getting scrambled in some way. Check the wire connection where you clip it onto the sensor. Use a multi meter and check for continuity there and back further along the wire.
if you can't trace the wire all the way to the computer, you may have to do a bodge job..rig a wire into the cab with an on off switch.
Only to be used when the engine is warm..flick switch to off, start truck, flick switch back to reengage sensor.......
think of it as an unusual theft deterrent !

I have a 1997 nissan quest xe and it runs pretty good in the morning when the motor is cold, but as soon as it warms up it starts to spit and sputter and sounds like it is fixing to die. We have changed...

When your engine is cold it runs in open loop, and bypasses the oxygen sensor. When warm it goes into closed loop, with the oxygen sensor controlling the fuel mixture. Replace the sensor.

94 olds hard starts when warm, starts when cold and runs rich

If you can get a fuel pressure gauge, check and see if the pressure is 16 to 24 lbs after the engine has warmed up.
I would connect the pressure gauge when the engine is cold, make sure it does not leak or touch anything hot, place the gauge between the hood and the windshield and drive the vehicle until it is at the temperature you feel it "starts hard". Shut the engine off and try to repeat the no start or hard start and make sure the pressure is correct.
Also, when you shut the engine off, watch the pressure and make sure it holds and does not drop to (0 LBS) of pressure.
One last question, has the fuel filter been changed in the past 30K.
Let me know.
Regards,
