I have a 2009 VW Jetta that's running a bit weird. At first I noticed that it was shifting odd when I would accelerate. it would hardly go anywhere then jump into gear. the check engine light has gone on twice but is no longer on now. now, it hovers at 2,000 RPM and accelerates at an extremely low pace plateauing around 60mph (that's pushing it) Im awful with cars and would at least like an idea of what's going on before taking it to a mechanic! all fluids were just filled and my oil was done if that helps at all

I had it checked yesterday, the mechanic drove it around to feel exactly what I felt and hooked it up to the code reader today. Apparently, the car is running beautifully now with no signs of problems. I have no idea what's going on!

Intermittant things are very hard to track. So keep watching it. Could be a bad connection from Tranmission computer to the transmission working parts. Glad to hear it's working well now.

DSG transmission? If so, have it check immediately.

Testimonial: "I had it looked at yesterday, the mechanic had driven it around to see exactly what I felt. He told me that they hooked it up to the code reader, but nothing was wrong. My car is currently running perfectly. I have no idea what's going on!"

Sorry to say this, but sounds to me like the Auto transmission fluid was NOT checked. Or you have a serious transmission problem.

If you ever have an oil leak it really should be fixed right away unless this happened all at once. Go to a local mech or if there is an Autozone around go there and have them check the Engine Light code for you for free. You will have more info to work with.

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.

Why is gear shift rough when accelerating quickly?

you need to let the RPMs drop down to match the speed you're going for the next gear, though this is less efficient than power shifting through.
Unless you're slipping the clutch to smooth out the gear change, yes, there will be a definite surge every time you grab a gear in a manual transmission vehicle. Most automatics will also shift noticeably harder at WOT.
For more sedate, "normal" driving, you can shift slower and feather the throttle a bit more to smooth out the gear changes, but when you're ******* the throttle as soon as the clutch engages, it's going to be a firm shift. I hope is ok.

WHEN DRIVING AND THE TRANS NEEDS TO SHIFT ON MY 2005 VW JETTA 2.5-5 NEW STYLE THE RPM'S REV UP BRIEFLY THEN THE TRANS WILL SHIFT THE SHIFTING IS SMOOTH BUT THE HIGH RPMS WORRY ME.

when vw started to use the computer controlled gearbox system a criticism was the shift was very harsh,to counter this they made it rev slightly before changing.so that you know the system, try this out....without touching the gas.....put it in d and let the car accelerate to its max speed, stop, then use 1/3rd of gas (keep your foot still)and let it do the same...stop,then,if safe, put your foot to the floor, hard, notice when the car changes gear(revs/speed)then if you drive, only using the first1/3rd of the gas,the cars change pattern will alter to suit.......wierd it is.....

Two symptoms here Keith, and I just had this, same car year and model. The pedal could either be a bit loose, check the cable and throtle. Have someone check, when the cars in neutral, they manually rev it, and watch the RPM's. They should go 3-4 as normal. If this is the case, and its not the cable or pedal, REPLACE spark plug cables and wires. Odd, but that was the fix to mine. Hope it helps.

Your car overheating is either low coolant or its the thermostat. The thermostat is what tells the car to add coolant and turn on fans.
Your tranny slips could be because low transmission fluid, which was the cause with my VW. Or your tranny is bad, which is common with VW.
When your car shakes when you accelerate does it seem like its choking?

Shop for a rebuilt transmission, or get an estimate from AAMCO for a rebuild job, but it won't be cheap. Get at least 3 estimates before you decide how to proceed. Good luck.
