Hello,I will try and help you if I can.The most common problem would be the speedometer cable that is broken.Start there and see if it is broken. If the speedometer cable is not broken, check the gear inside of transmission or transfer case,it could be sheared (it is plastic). If both of these things are ok,then you will be needing a new speedometer/odometer. If i can help you with anything else, please ask and I will try to help you if I [email protected]

2004 Saturn Vue odometer and speedometer occasionally not working

Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the body control module (BCM). The engine control module (ECM) calculates the vehicle speed based on the controller area network (CAN) serial data message indicating the wheel reference speed from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The ECM sends a CAN serial data message to the BCM indicating the vehicle speed. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC indicating the vehicle speed.
The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) when any of the following occur:
• The EBCM detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.
• The ECM detects a loss of CAN communications with the EBCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of CAN communications with the ECM.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.

Having the vehicle scanned for codes would probably point you in a correct diagnostic direction .

1999 ford escort speedometer works but the odometer doesnt how do i fix it and where is it located thankyou ricky

The odometer has nylon gears. I guess your gears could have stripped out. You can find a cluster with similar miles to yours and put that in. You can try replacing the wheel but if the gears in the drive part are busted, they won't drive a new wheel. If the gears on the odometer are busted then it won't work at all.

My speedometer and odometer on my 98 ford explorer

the speedometer/odometer works on a cable that goes into the side of the transmission with one 10mm bolt holding it in. It sounds as if the cable has been broken, pulled loose, or siezed up. Its easy to check the end under the vehicle but its very complicated checking it inside the dashboard. If you are a do it yourself type of person, id look underneath and see if the connection under the vehicle is still connected. Look on left rear of the transmission for a cable that goes into it and is held with a "Y" bracket and a small bolt. The dashboard part is the type of job where u got to make sure you remember where each screw goes to get back together.
