Door locks are controlled by the body control module This module operates a relay that controls door lock function. The relay may be bad or the module may not be getting a signal from the speed sensor to let it know when to lock the doors when the vehicle is in motion. Check engine light on? Scan for codes that might pertain to this failure
Does the automatic door locking mechanism fail to operate? With my 1996 XJ6, the clicking was associated with that. On the rare occasion when it did work, and the doors locked; no click. Garage mechanic solved the clicking by greasing the offending parts which are just inside the gear changer assembly, To get access, it's enough to remove the cover of the J gate, Sorry I can't be more precise about exactly where it needs to be greased, but I think it's evident to a mechanic or prficient DIY which I am not really. The doors still don't lock when the car sets off; I believe that's an electrical issue, but the grease more or less got rid of the click. Hope that helps.
I don't know your vehicle, but you'll probably find one lock is defective and not locking automatically. This will cause the others to behave in the way you're explaining....
The usual cause is dirt contamination on the mechanism or more likely in the locking solenoid....
Locate the problem door by observing while operating.
Once located, remove door panel.
Remove the screws holding the arm rest
Check to find out if the locking button needs to be removed.
Remove the release handle.
Using a flat spatula and slide it between the panel and the door prying the panel outwards and away from the door until it's loose.
First try spraying some WD into the unit and then moving it up and down, Leave it for some time to penetrate.
To replace it, is a big job.
If the unit needs replacing I'm going to have to hand you over to someone who knows your vehicle. Most likely the door glass will have to come out together with the outside door handle and the lock mechanism. That will mean having to take out the window motor mechanism too,,,,The linkages are the biggest problem as I don't know the type and can't explain how to release them....

I assume you mean that the central locking system will not lock the doors but you can do so manually.
Get inside the vehicle and close all doors.
On each rear door, lock and unlock the mechanism manually a couple of times. In other words do not use the key pad.
Then
leave both rear doors in the locked position (manual locking) and
operate the lock button on you key pad to operate the central locking
system. Wait a few seconds then hit unlock on your key pad and a few
seconds later hit lock on your key pad.
If the system fails to
lock your rear doors you will need to get the vehicle to an auto
electrician to check out the issue and rectify it for you. There are a
number of possible causes which cannot be identified without physically
checking the system. So you will need to have this rectified by a
professional.
possibly your linkage from the electric solenoid and door lock to the locking mechanism has either fallen apart inside the door or also possibly it has gotten "over-center" and cannot operate properly from either the automatic electric or manually from the key, can you hear and click from the solenoid when you operate this electrically? and see lock button move a little,this would be a sign it's over-center.
The sound you are hearing is a built-in solenoid inside of the door latch itself, the part to replace will be the door latch or all latches that are making the noise.
