Have a 91 dodge Spirit that will not shift past 2nd and sometimes down shifts into 1st. Have had it to a transmission shop and replaced the transmission and still the same issue. Did hear from a person that it could be a grounding issue. Has anyone ever heard of the issue with the ground cable?

Here is some possible reasons why your transmission is having those problems .

* The gear shift linkage is binding
* There is an internal problem in the transmission
* The throttle cable is broken or disconnected
* The vacuum modulator on the transmission is faulty or the vacuum line is damaged
* The electronic transmission control circuit may be faulty

I have the same problem right now..Ive done some recearch and came up with the input and output censors on the transmission.Still waiting for the parts..I would diffently check into it before replacing the transmission...keep me posted
