I would check the EEC relay and the fuel pump relay for power and ground signals first. Both circuits are controlled by the ignition key switch. The fuel pump should be powered for 3 seconds when you turn the key on.
You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem to proceed. Check for spark at the plugs, and fuel pressure at the injectors. You might want to check the computer for trouble codes too.
DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY AND RECONNECT, THIS SHOULD RESET THE BRAIN.
ALSO...WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, LISTEN TO HEAR IF YOU CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP COME ON...IF NOT, GUESS WHAT? HOPEFULLY NOT!... BUT,YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, IF YOU CAN'T HEAR IT WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, AFTER YOU'VE RESET THE BATTERY!
You can start by checking your fuel pump fuse/relay or the fuel reset switch if your van is equipped. You should hear the fuel pump humming for a second or two when you first turn the key. Let me know if your hear it.
If not starting U have either a fuel delivery issue or a no spark situation. Open a fuel delivery joint by the engine and turn on the ignition. If fuel squirts out the pump is fine and the hassle is with the spark. Could be bad igniter causing either no spark or a weak one.
2002 ford focus cold start problem. turns over but will not start. cannot hear fuel pump.. keep turning key on and off and finally hear fuel pump come on and car will start.
Put a fuel pressure guage on the test port on fuel rail. With fuel injected engines if pressure is too high or low car wont start.
Cycle key off to run (not start) you should hear the pump run a few seconds and stop.
I think that the 2002 accents still have a external fuel pump i would change that but to be shue it is a fuel problem remove the fuel line from the fuel rail and cycle the key on and off checking to see that there is no fuel spurting out of the line. New fuel pumps aer extremly quiet
