You may need to remove the back seats and try reaching in with a long rod/bar, and unlatch it.

My 2004 Totota Avalon trunk wont open with the key. Opens fine from inside or with remote. Is there a seperate key ? I never used anything but the remote, or maybe there is a lock of some sort but I...

The key you are using might be a valet key. Check to see if you can lock your glove box. If you can lock and unlock your glove box with the key then there is something wrong with your trunk lock. If the key does not work in the glove box, then you will need to order a master key from a toyota dealer.

Remote locks the doors but will not unlock doors or trunk Battery

It is entirely possible that the unlock button on the remote is worn such that it is not making contact. I've seen this happen many times, as the unlock button is pressed so much more than lock. You might try to reprogram the remote first before you look into getting a new remote. The procedure goes like this. Close and lock all doors Key in and out of the ignition 6 times, hazard lights should flash twice Turn key into accessory or on position Unlock and lock doors with drivers switch Press lock or unlock on remote Hazards should flash again to verify recognition turn key off  manually unlock door and then open and shut it.  you should then be able to test remote.
The key to the procedure is doing step two quickly Hope this helps, if not you may need another remote or see dealer.

The trunk on my 2000 volvo s-40 wont open

you'll need to insert your key into the trunk lock. prior to doing this you'll need to use the automatic lock on the driver side of the vehicle, hit the unluck button twice. Torn the key in the trunk to the left, you may have to slightly press the trunk button in while doing this and give it a lttle wiggle after the key has been turneed to the left push the button all the way in, if this does not work repeat the process but reverse to the right instead of the left.

This manually disables the remote lock for your trunk.

Trunk lock only operates with remote and key

Look in the glove box and see if there is not a valet switch. It is usually on the top left. This locks out the buttons.
