The mechanic who replaced the turbo charger said he didn't clear out certain parts because it could be cleared when giving the car a good run through the motorway. Following his instructions (and giving the car a run through the motorway a couple of times) we still have thick smoke coming out of the exhaust. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks It is white smoke when starting the car. After starting, I give it a rev to clear it out but it still happens the following day.
Maybe you have same more oil inside the intercooler or your new turbo is not good! dismount the intake turbo and check if the turbo shaft has too much slack and/or dismount the exhaust side and see if there is traces of oil!?
The turbo your mechanic put on was 2nd hand and knackered i expect ,,,,white smoke means turbo still gone ,,,,

I dont know for sure pal,, but i doubt it. I think this mechanic gave you a load of who shot john ,, take it to different mechanic and get them to hook it up to computer , and thatll tell you if im right about knackered turbo,,, hope im wrong for your sake ,, but if it is , take it back to original mechanic and tell him to fix it for free , with a good turbo, or youll report to tading standards. If you can buy a guaranteed 2nd hand turbo, or better still a new one ,,
ps , after new turbo a run at 60mph for 5 mins should clear out the system good enough ,, blue and white smoke is always bad , and you say you still got white ,, grey or black smoke isnt usually a problem ,, a good run will clear grey or black ,, its just carbon ,,,
pps my wife is selling a vw passat soon which functions a1 and has the tiptronic gearbox which is fabulous,
