Check charging system warning comes on on dash and battery symbols is on. Changed altenator and it appears to be working car runs with one battery cable off.

as its a used part it may not be in working order , check the charge rate by putting volt meter across the battery terminals when engine running , the reading should be around 13.5 -14 volts , if not then check the alternator belt is tight enough and retest the charge if lower than 12 volts then the alternator is useless , a non charging alternator will give the symptoms you've described, th ered icon is the non charging warning light , dont drive if the check is low as will ruin your battery as well, take alternator off and get a lift back to the supplier , best to by new

Your describing what happenes when a car runs out of battery power and your altenator has failed you. On your dash lights, has a battery symbol light appeared? An easy way to find out if your altenator has kicked the bucket is to hook up a voltage meter and see if you have 14.5 volts at your battery while the engine is running. But before you do that, you need to get your battery charged. Once you have that taken care of any auto parts store can do a free test with a battery tester to find out what is the cause of your electrical issue. For your SRS light it maybe due to your battery running dead or something else, You will need a scanner for that and again an auto parts store should be able to pull the code. wow,only thing I can think is make sure the player ground is
grounded to the chassis,if the black wire from the cd is connected
to a light(parking,dash,ashtray,whatever) it will appear to the installer
to be a ground(thru the bulb filiment) but when the light is powered
up the trouble starts.

Does the car start fine after it dies with out charging? If it only starts after charging then it may be the alternator. but if it dies then you can just restart it without a charge then the charging system is working.

The altenator is bad. Not charging the battery and running the car. Once the battery drains the car will die. You can charge the battery and it will run untill it is drained.

The easiest way to check is with the car running, disconnect the positve side of the battery, if the car dies, then it is the altenator, if the car keeps running then it is the battery. If you have a volt ohm meter, check the chrge going to the battery you should get between 12 and 14 volts if it is lower than 12 you have an altenator issue. the altenator should always produce enough to charge the battery and run the car at the same time, if not then the battery wears down.

ok get power to truck turn key to on position pull plug off altenater one of then should be hot its call an exciter wire to excit the altenater to starg charging but first before all that check the alt. fuse inside your truck

check to see if the alt. is actually grounding to the engine and battery, run the vehicle and check voltage at battery, should be 14.5 volts or so if not run a ground from alternator to battery, then run a live

Well I can tell you the battery symbol is a warning that there is an issue with the charging system, most likely a faulty altenator. As far as the other, I'm not a mazda expert, so I'd have to say look in the owner's manual, but that's a wierd one, I'm curious to know what that means, too.

Sounds like the alternator may be missing an excitation current source.
Check the 'IGN' dash indicator lights when you turn ignition switch on prior to starting motor,
if not one of the below may be problem:-
1) check exiter control wire is connected to alternator D+ terminal (low current wire, +V with Ign on),
2) replace dash 'IGN' indicator lamp.
