Take off the negative cable first, then remove the battery with the positive cable attached and replace either positive cable end , or the whole positive cable.

Cable end, or the whole cable can be purchased from Autozone, or from any local car parts dealer.

To replace the battery cable , follow the cable to the point it is attached to the engine on one side, and to the interior electrical distribution center on the ote. There you will find a bolt holding the cable to engine, and a connector to electrical distribution center.

Positive battery cable grounding at distribution box

Chevy trucks had a bad habit of shorting out near the starter. It shorts out because of the hot manifold melting the insulation. I moved my wire away from the starter and placed it on the battery positive post using a small extension. You might also have a bad pickup getting ready to go so be ready.

Battery keep dying. I have replaced it and gotten the Alternator and starter checked.

You more than likely have a parasitic draw on the battery. This means that some electrical component is still using power even after the car is turned off. The best way to check this is to get a ammeter. You need to connect it between the positive post of the battery to the positive battery cable. Then you will need to disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery so that the ammeter is the only thing connecting the cable to the battery post. If it shows mroe than 50 milliamps, then that is your problem. After you do this, you will need to start pulling fuses from the fuse panel one at a time checking each one to see if the reading on the meter drops after removing it. When you remove the correct one, the ammeter will show 50mA or less. Using the owners manual, find out what circuit that particular fuse is related to, that will lead you to the parasitic draw.

Truck will not start how can i tell if its a starter or selonoid

does it spin real fast without clanging and grinding against the flywheel? if so then its probably the solenoid bad. do you have to hit the starter with a hammer then it works? it is probably bad brushes or a worn motor. eather way i think you can only get a new starter and solenoid together not sold seperate. check for bad battery cables (loose).

1998 ford escort altinator two bolt or three bolt? engine light is on brand new battery and the battery light is on . car just died when driving waited 7mins and it started .is it the altinator

check with volt meter. 12 volts with engine off. Should be 14 volts with engine running if alternator is working.
First, clean battery posts and cable ends. Then check owner manual for fuse locations and blown fuses. There is a large 100 amp fuse in box under hood.

Is the battery lamp lit on the dash?

Looks like 3 bolts. please rate when done

Ok 1994 vw passat... battery wont hold its charge.. new battery new alternator.. battery cables look old and worn.. when I turn the key sometimes there is nothing just the fourways trun on.. I then unhook...

the wires on the positive post are the large cable goes to the starter, one of the smaller wires goes to the charging circuit and the other goes to the fuse/relay power center, now how to check for a draw on your battery, first you need to remove the battery and have it charged you can take it to auto zone and they will charge it for free. after you have the battery charged hook up the negative battery cable but do not hook up the positive cable, make sure every thing is turned off and all doors and trunk are closed, then take a 12volt test light and hook it between the positive battery post and the positive battery cable if the test light lights up you have a draw, if it lights start pulling fuses one at a time till the light goes out. when you find the fuse that turns the light out you found the circuit that is drawing on the battery. now i cant tell you what in that circuit is drawing you will have to come back on and tell us what fuse it is and we can look up what all is on that circuit, if the light stays on after all fuses have been tested unhook the alternator if the light goes out you got a bad alternator......GOOD LUCK

Battery has a electrical draw on it

Are you familiar with removing battery cable from battery + and installing a 12 volt test light from cable end to battery post ? If the light is on bright, you have a good draw. Now start removing fuses you suspect may be causing the draw, and when light goes real dim, or out, you found the circuit with the draw. Keep in mind radio memory will cause small draw as well. Just keep track of where they came from.

Dead overnight battery short in instrument panel

You will need a amp meter to check this. 1. make sure the battery is fully charged 2. remove the negative cable from the battery 3. with the key out of the ignition and doors closed place one probe on the negative battery cable and the other probe on the negative post of the battery (the battery should be in the car with the positive cable attached to the positive battery post) 4. note the amount of amps your truck is drawing (3 is the norm, 5 or more is considered high) 5. if the reading is high remove one fuse at a time, check the amps again until you find which fuse is drawing the extra amps. 6. Start with the smaller fuses; if you suspect it is a problem with the instrument panel start there. This should help you pinpoint your problem area. Good luck
