So it could be either of the two. I would take your car to a mechanic and have it checked out.

Look in engine bay for fluid reservoirs, each should have a sybol / picture on the top of what each is for, thus steering fluid reservoir should have a steering wheel on it. Hope this helps

i dont think its smoke i think its the sybol that a light is out. check the park light and brake light, a matter of fact check all the lights. good luck.
