I put my key in and when I turned the key nothing happens lights on dash come on but nothing else .

did u have the alternator tested to see output get a jump if the car starts takeit to a auto zone have him test the battery and alternator for free

sounds like a dead battery to start with. Not even enough juice in the battery to energize the solenoid / brake interlock to get it out of PARK. Hope this helps
