Had same problem. You need to add coolant to the engine not at the overfill container but at the engine itself. Do it while it is running. Not hot. It has been a problem with chev. V 6 engines.
I hope you have had more problems than just this before you dismiss a car brand. Do you know if the engine is heating up ? Is the cooling system full of coolant ? Are the heater hoses getting hot ? If the system is heating up the problem could be a faulty blend door under the dash.
you can add it yourself it should be labeled on the cap brake fluid and it should even tell you what kind of brake fluid. then there should be a dip stick on the cap use that to make sure you dont put to much in
NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR COOLANT MIXTURE IS CORRECT AND BE SURE TO
CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT BECAUSE AFTER A MOTOR OVERHEATS THE WAX DIAPHRAGM IN THE THERMOSTAT BECOMES DISTORTED
its on the passanger side rear towards the firewall.....down low.....you will need a long funnel to add fluid to the resevoir....available at advance auto
the power steering fluid resevoir is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the fire wall. mostimes in order to fill it you have to remove the altenator to remove the fill cap to add the fluid.
Impalas are known for this issue, where the heating won't work properly.... usually caused by trapped air/bubbles in cooling system or slightly low coolant level. Park car so that the right front side is elevated and remove the coolant OVERFLOW bottle cap (NEVER the radiator cap) while engine is running.. This should allow the trapped air to escape. Also add a bit more coolant if needed.
Had the same problem with my 2006 Impala with the 3.5 engine - there is an air pocket in the heater core. With the engine cold, remove the upper heater hose (marked with blue tape in the picture) and add water to the hose until coolant comes out of the metal cross-over tube.Fix takes 5 minutes…all you need is a pair of pliers and a funnel.
Locate the cap to the power steering fluid reservoir
Remove cap and fill reservoir with GM Power Steering Fluid (P/N 89021184) or any fluid a knowledgeable parts department says is compatible. It may not look like much but there are a few dozen steering fluids available out there and lots of systems aren't compatible with many of them (wrong fluid will disintegrate seals, pumps, etc...)
