Your oil level is low. Wait until the motor is cold and check your oil level. You could also check your level after a drive just shut the motor down and wait 20 minutes for the oil to seep back down out of the block. Pull the dipstick, whipe it clean and did it in again and see what your reading is. If it is between Min and Max towards the middle of both it is fine. If It is all the way up by Max you may have too much, but I bet your oil level is low, I bet when you check it, it will be down near the min mark. If thats the case, find out what type of oil your car uses and buy one quart of oil and add some of it to your motor. I recommend you add about a quarter of the bottle, then stop check the dip stick if still low add a little more. If the level is good then stop. It is critical not to add too much oil. When cars get older they tend to run hot and burn oil. My van does the same thing, I can change the oil and add 5 quarts and about 3 weeks to a month later I have to add a little more and I usually can hear when i need to add some oil because I get a rattle/ping and the idle just doesnt sound right, but once I add the little bit of oil everything is all good.

SOURCE: oil consumption, rattle, engine noise

Check under the hood and inspect the valve cover gasket. If it's bad it would explain why you don't see any leaks on the ground because it's probably burning off on the manifold. This ticking you're hearing is a lack of lubrication to the rocker arms. Apart from the valve cover gasket, you should get under the car and inspect the oil pan and oil filter for seepage. Best of luck on your problem.

Why would my Pontiac start with a loud rattling noise?

Brown Milky Oil sounds like your head gasket has gone and coolant water is mixing with engine oil. Unless you have an oil cooler, it may be from there.

You can locate the rattling if you get someone to start it with the hood up.

My Lincoln Continental 2000 Model oil light came on engine stopped after 25 feet. would not restart even though oil full. The car started the next day, but had a rattling sound at the top of the motor

Oil light is rather important it goes out if oil pressure is good comes on if oil pressure is low when it comes on damage is expected with continued operation like wearing of main bearings and pistons and cylinders can lead to a engine rebuild

Sounds like a bad rod bearing, no cure except a rebuild. I assume you do know the difference between spark knock and bearing knock.

Oil light on even with oil level correct, now engine making a rattling noise, live in Spain need help. A6 Avanti 2002

The light is on because of oil pressure being low in the engine, do not drive this until the source of this low pressure is corrected. The noise you hear is engine parts lacking proper lubrication. Have this fixed ASAP or you will destroy the engines bearings, a $4000.00 repair on this car.
