windshield wipers won't work at all the rear windshield wiper works...the front windshield wipers just stopped in the middle of the wind shield
Fist check the fuse box fir wishield wiper fuse; also could be the wishield wiper relay. Your wiper motor should not have anything to do with the washer pump running. Have you made sure the wiper pump is good? They are known to go bad fairly regularly

It sounds like the the circuit board has gone bad and does not know where the base is any more so it will stop at the middle or the windshield. Auto Zone should have a new board if it's replaceable like the GM products. Good luck and hope this helps, In the mean time you can always turn your wipers on and pull the fuse out when it's at the down position so it's not up.
