Airbag light stays on or fluctuates. Possible causes?

A component of the airbag system is failing. If you are steering when it flashes it could be the clock spring in the steering wheel. When this light is on you will not have airbags in an accident. only a scanner can pull this info.

I have the same issue (03 Avalon XLS) where the air bag light comes on/off at times at varying levels of brightness. What works for me is gently bending the center dashboard console just above the clock up for a few seconds by hand and it goes back off. I suspect the problem many have to be something with wiring or shorting in the dashboard area itself, but hope this helps someone have working airbags in their car and saves a life. First try to wiggle the connector under the driver seat to ensure that connection is correct.
