Cigarette lighter not wotking - 1991 Toyota Previa

  • info83069 Jul 08, 2009

Thanks for swift reply, I will have a look at it tommorow morning.
Its really important to me as I need to use it for my laptop for work while away camping.

I had a power cut here and my computer was rendering so I had to power it from the cigarette lighter in the car, and put it in and out too much force a few times.

  • info83069 Jul 08, 2009

Sure thanks for all comments. I looked at the fuse, it looked ok to me. I tried another 15 and it still didnt work.

So I hope it is the unit and not some weird thing never to be solved, I need power in my van!!!:(. There seems to be a black c shaped plastic holder/tubing further down around the wire that seems not in the right place too.

Where do I buy a cigarette unit? I did a search on ebay etc couldnt find. Is there another name for that?

    Many thanks.

Hi, check the fuse box under the dash on the passenger or driver side. There is a cigarette lighter fuse that may have burned out. if the fuse is in good condition, this will confirm element failure. you will need to replace the lighter head in this case(uncommon).

**Most common issue here will eb a busted or burned out fuse..

I see, this constant usage of the lighter socket may have blown the fuse.

I bought a replacement cig lighter socket from Pep Boy's or some other auto parts house years ago. Take your old one w/ you as there are several generic replacements & they are not all the same. Fairly cheap. Or go to Toyota for the original, not cheap.

Check your fuse. If its not your fuse than pull or remove the unit by pulling it out, becareful not to break the clip that hold its in. When you get the unit out their should be 2 wires, one Positve and others negative Black. With your ignition turn on to ACC. check to see if you get any power from those two wires with a light tester. If you have power, the cig unit need to be replace. You might be able to re-adjust the inside off cig. lighter unit by using plier squeezing the side of the lighter together giving the unit a good ground. Do not squeeze too hard other wise you will cave the whole unit in than nothing will fit in your lighter. again if its not the fuses than it would be the lighter unit in its self.

Where is the cigarette lighter fuse for a Chevrolet City Express LT?

The cigarette lighter fuse for a Chevrolet City Express LT is located in the Engine Compartment Fuse Box. The location of the fuse box varies depending on the year of the vehicle. For instance, in 2003-2007 models, the cigar lighter (power outlet) fuses are numbered 29 (Auxiliary Power Outlets) and 30 (Cigarette Lighter). In 2008-2009 models, they are numbered 33 (Auxiliary Power Outlet) and 38 (Cigarette Lighter). In 2010-2022 models, they are numbered 25 (Auxiliary Power Outlet) and 73 (Cigarette Lighter).

Need location of fuse box containing cigarette lighter fuse

On some vehicles the cigarette lighter fuse is attached to the cigarette lighter assembly itself. Check if you can gently prise the cigarette lighter assembly out of its location in the dashboard, or remove any panel that may allow access to the rear of the cigarette lighter and look for the fuse (it may be an in-line one in the power lead to the cigarette lighter or it may be physically attached to the cigarette lighter itself). Failing that, the fusebox is normally under the dashboard on the driver side, but some fuseboxes can be found under the dashboard on the passenger side. There should be a diagram under the fusebox cover that shows what circuits each fuse protects. If a fuse has blown ensure that another of the same type and value is used to replace it.

How do i change 12v power / cigarette lighter! in a Peugoet 206

The cigarette lighter is connected to a harness that's being the unit. You need to most likely remove the panel that the cigarette lighter is attached to in order to remove the lighter unit out. Once the unit is out, disconnect the wiring harness to exchange it. I don't know how exactly your lighter will come out
