My brake and hazard lights don't work on my 2001 Chevy Astro Van. Turn signals work fine, running lights work, and the top brake light works fine. Replaced bulbs, no change, fuses are fine. Where do I look next?

Buy a cheap multimeter and measure your voltage at the bulb when the brake lights are supposed to be on. You should have 12vdc. Is your 3rd brake light and brake lights on the same fuse? If not, measure to see if you have 12vdc at the fuse itself.

SOURCE: No rear brake light / turn signals on 2001 Chevy Cavalier

The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores

SOURCE: Brake lights wont work! All others do!

I just had the same problem on my '04 Silverado. All it was was corrosion in the socket/bulb. Put some dialectic grease on both the bulbs and worked them in and out a couple of times and now they work fine. Was weird that they both went out suddenly and together but I guess they are made exactly the same.

SOURCE: bottom brake lights and hazard lights do not come on. All other lights work including top brake lights. Fuses and bulbs checked.

Check for power out of brake light switch by brake pedal. Of its faulty , the 3rd brake light will still work. Hope this helps

SOURCE: 99 Chevy Tahoe... Rear turn signals, brake lights, and hazards

I had this problem, and to be honest, it happened to the left side about a week later...it's the board that the bulbs plug into...it's a very common problem with this model. So popular that you can normally get the socket board off the shelf at a parts store! it's extremely simple to replace, and I replaced all the bulbs at the same time!

2001 Chevy Cavalier no brake lights but turn signals/hazards/backups work just fine. any ideas?

WHEN YOU APPLY BRAKE PEDAL, do you see brake lights come on ? if no then the switch is not working fine ! switch turns lights on when you depress the pedal, releasing the plunger, lights go out when you release the pedal. this switch has a fuse @ fuse block. check it ! if ok, and brake lights do
not come on replace switch, & mount properly in bracket.

Stop lights dont work but top center does in 2003 chevy astro

Sound like a bad turn signal switch. I would bet if you wiggled the switch in just the right position the brake lights would turn on.

How to fix turn signal on 86 Chevy Astro Van

you don`t say but do the lights work either on the front/back on both sides.if not then it may be a fuse that needs replacing or need a bulb replacement.if the lights work but don`t flash then it sounds like a signal flasher problem.the flasher is located in the fuse panel under the dash on the drivers side.if the hazard flashers work then turn them on to find the hazard flasher by the fuse panel then you will know what the signal flasher looks like and change the signal flasher.make sure you change the one for the signals and not the hazard one.if the hazards work then i would say the signal switch is good as the hazards work through the same switch.

My 2001 Astro van does not have brake lights, the top led brake light works, but the others do not. The turn signals/parking lights work, no brake lights. Where should I start looking? Could this be at the...

the problem is probably your turn signal switch. I know it sounds weird, but the brake lights work through the switch. If the third brake light works, then the brake light switch works, the turn signal switch works the lower brake lights. It's the switch under the steering wheel inside the column...not the easiest or cheapest thing to replace, but should fix your problem. If you decide to do it yourself, tie some wire to the connecter on the end of the switch wires at the bottom of the column...that way when you pull the wires up throught the column, you can use the wire you tied to them to pull the new connector and wires back down through the column.
