1996 astro chevy van heater use to work on low and med but wont work at all now.

The blower resistor has gone bad which is why you lost blower speeds. This may have been caused by the blower motor drawing too much power. At this point I would verify that no fuses burned out and then check the pigtail plugs going to the resistor and blower motor to make sure the connectors and connections are not melted or wiring is frayed. These connectors are located in the engine compartment on the passenger side. After checking this and if everything appears ok then the blower motor itself has probably gone bad and needs replaced. I would also replace the blower motor resistor as well. If the connectors appear damaged replace or repair as needed .

A/C fan switch only works on high

it's your blower motor resistor in the plenum case. They usually blow the thermal limiter because the blower motor is drawing too much current. It's starting to go.
You can replace the resistor, 2 screws under the dash on the passenger side. It has a 4 or 5 wie connector. About $25 from a Ford or Mercury dealer.

1999 grand marquis were the blower motor resistor is located

this is for manual heater system. If you have electronic (digital display) you don't have one. Instead you have a blower motor speed controller.

here is info

Control System Outputs—Manual A/C
Blower Motor Switch Resistor
The heater blower motor switch resistor has the following features:
  • The assembly is located in the engine compartment on the evaporator housing toward the center of the vehicle.
  • Three resistor elements are mounted on the resistor board to provide four blower motor speeds.
  • Depending on the heater blower motor switch position, series resistance is added or bypassed in the A/C blower motor circuit to decrease or increase A/C blower motor speed.
  • An overheating protective device (thermal limiter) will open the resistor coil when the temperature reaches 121°C (250°F) interrupting the blower motor operation in all speeds except HI.
  • The thermal limiter cannot be reset and is not serviceable.

Location of blower fan resistor 02 mercury villager

if you have a manual control a/c system, it is in the heater plenum case held in with 2 screws. On the passengers side.

If you have electronic system, it does not have a resister. It has a blower motor speed controller.

Mercury Cougar heater blower only works on high.

remove the trim panel below the glove box and you will see the blower motor, just to the left of it you will see a 4 wire connector plugged into the case. This is the blower motor resistor, this is what you need to replace.

Blower motor resistor

Hi..The Blower Motor Resistor is located under the glove compartment, pass side. You do not need to remove the glove box, or anything. Look under the dash on the pass side and you will see the resistor with the wires leading to it. (looks about the width of a Credit card) Simply undo the ( 2 ) 9 or 10mm screws from the resistor, slide/pull it down from the slot, un-clip the wire harness and replace with the new resistor. Screw it back up. Thats it. Takes about 4 minutes. The dealer wants $125.+ to do the job. The resistor is about $24.00.
Good Luck. If it keeps blowing, the blower motor is probably drawing too many amps. Then you have to switch that out.

Where is the heater blower resistor located

Blower Motor Resistor
The four-speed operation of the blower motor is achieved through the blower motor resistor. The blower motor resistor is mounted under the A/C evaporator/blower motor assembly.
