OVERHEATED ON FREEWAY AND NOW I CANT GET IT STARTED,VALVES WERE REALLY PINGING WHILE DRIVING IT OFF THE FREEWAY
You just gotta face it: your engine is munched.
Sorry.
Nothing but nothing will totally ruin an engine faster, or more thoroughly, than overheating. And the damage that is done it not the kind that can usually be repaired. Every component of the engine is likely ruined, every single internal part.
If you would have turned the engine IMMEDIATELY off, and coasted to the side of the road, you might not be in this position. But since you ran it until it started pounding ("pinging" you called it), you can rest assured that it will likely never run again.
Sorry!

let me guess....... you are using regular 87 octane gas ? run it down to almost empty and fill it with super and see it it works you probably have about 100,000 miles on it the camshaft, lifters and valve springs, timing chain are all worn

Was it the fuel pump? If not I would consider the charging system ie) battery, alternator or both.

Sounds like the clutch is gone on the fan you can check it by trying to spin it with the motor off of coarse if it has a little bit of drag maybe going around 1 or 2 times its ok but if it spins real easy and freely it is bad.
Testimonial: "thank you i cant wait to see if that is the problem.your advise sounds like an EASY FIX vs Possible major repair I cant afford.I appreciate your reply"

It is usually the heat shield on the exhaust system. When you drive your truck, the catalytic converter heats up to about 1000 degrees in order to work properly. The car manufacturers put heat shields over the converter to prevent grass from catching fire, because the shield is thinner and it cools faster. As it cools, it ticks and pops for at least an hour after you stop the engine.
The other option is there is a time bomb counting down....lol.
Sounds like this may be the electronic ignition module. Have it checked.
