I have a porsche boxster convertable (1998) and it overheats very easily even though i put in the correct amounts of oil and waterwhat can the problem be?
Comments: Jul 08, 2009 - after turning the boxster off, i put my hand next to the exhausts on the side, and there is hot air coming out. also, after turning of the porsche, i'll open the trunk and steam and smoke comes out of the oil checking device and water-cap. While driving, I can smell something burning when it tells me the engine is hot. also, could you clarify some of your suggestions?

*1-it could be the thermostat has gone bad-does top hose get hot if no then likely bad thermostat,*2- water pump is bad if pulley is wobbly it is bad, *3- radiator is clogged with corrosion, look in rad when cold and if it is dirty or milky it needs flush and refill with new antifreeze
In response to your suggestion: *** You do know this is a Porsche right?*** 1- the thermostat is not broken because I can smell something burning and feel heat 2- what is the pulley? and how can I find it? and how will I know if it is wobbly? and will that mean that my waterpump is bad? 3- how can i look into the radiator? As you can tell, I'm no machanic. Thanks for your help. and could u email me your answers please? [email protected] Thanks again
I just bought this car... the engine is under the rear trunk. It's also verticle so I don't know where the typical parts are. We have taken it to the porsche shop a few times and it never overheats for them.I just bought this car... the engine is under the rear trunk. Based on your questions and lack of comprehension of the answers you received, I strongly suggest you bring your car to a competent reliable repair shop. Repeated overheating can and will destroy the engine or will cost you a huge repair bill at the very least. Buy yourself a manual and read it cover to cover and learn a bit about how and why your car works, so next time you just might be able to deal with a problem yourself!!!Based on your questions and lack of comprehension of the answers you received, I strongly suggest you bring your car to a competent reliable repair shop. I've a similiar problem, it could be the first stage radiator fan's resistor/relay is not working, the mechanic can hook up the dianostic
computer onto your car and would be confirm if this is the case.

You need to have the airbag serviced as there is an error somewhere. it also means that the airbag will not deploy in an accident, so you should get this looked at by someone with experience troubleshooting airbag problems asap.
This is a common problem. Your alarm was on when the battery went dead. When the alarm activated, the hood/bonnet opening lever locks to prevent thieves from opening the hood in case the top is down. Some boxsters have a jumper post the pulls out near the fuse box. However, I do not think the 1997-1999s have this post.
Buy a male-to-male cigarette lighter adapter at the auto store. Connect between your car's cigarette lighter socket and the other car's cigarette lighter socket. Do not try to start the ignition or the any other electronics. You should not even need the key in the ignition. You should be able to pop the door locks with the remote and open the bonnet.
