Does the fan work on high.
yes, then the heater resistor block is burned up. replace that
or look at it to see if the coil there are burned up and gone.
please post systems first, then your guess.
the FSM covers all this, step by step, take apart dash. under
HVAC chapter,.
alldata.com log in and its there.
factory service manual.
removing the control is tricky on all cable cars.
you must get the cables loose before the panel can move out.
the cables all clamped down or they will be dead. (all cars with cables drive)
please post of HIGH speed blower works on high first.
why do this the hard way, at the worst we can use a voltmeter
and prove what is dead, first.

see those rules on cables in the FSM below?
ill not post the panel Remove

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the heater control unit from the instrument panel.
  3. Remove the mode and temperature control cables at the heater case. Remove the cables from the vehicle.
  4. Remove the fresh/recirculate control cable at blower case and remove from vehicle.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  6. Adjust the cables prior to attaching at heater control unit.

now lets look at the blower, dead, on all speeds but HIGH , i bet.
?????????????????
this is your cave man simple blower
so if FUSE marked HTR is good, and 12vdc is on both sides of
fuse keyon, then it is good,. and 12vdc lands on motor top
where below on HIGH the blower and switch works on high.
if say the right side resistor blows up, (as all do)
then all lower speed fail. and DC power fails to reach the fan motor.
how is that? clear>?

Heater a/c control unit not working

what mode, heat or cold?
does fan blow?> no "? then replace the fan fuse.
fan blows on high? yes.
then if A/C ? wanted? why not say? then the green light glows
near A/C switch, does it? y/n
yes the does A/C compressor clutch close? and compressor shaft turn? y/n.?
or its heat you want? not stated.
so no heat, is a whole other list. ill try.
1: engine not hot, not 180f min. and holding (y/n)
2: cab fan dead.
3: heater core not hot, (feel the hose there both must be hot)
4: damper stuck closed blocking heater core.

its in the heater box, right dash.
1: fan blow full speed? (heater fan?)

3: when you slide the hot cold lever. does its end of able move?
and does it move the damper flap from closed to open(open is hot)
knowing these simple facts, allows diagnosis.

The fan to the motor is not working

My friend had a geo metro and his radiator fan stopped working due to a wiring problem and he had to run a toggle switch to it and then it worked fine. Try hooking a live wire to the battery to the fan and see if it comes on and if it does just hook it up with a toggle switch.

1995 GEO METRO BLOWER MOTER REPLACE

Yes, the speed control resistor is a possible culprit. There are other possibilities though. The motor itself might be wearing out. Bearings could be going bad and binding, or the motor itself could be. Usually when a speed control resistor goes, the particular speed setting that portion controls goes out completely, not just slows down. Most automotive blower motors have an independent resistor coil for each speed that you can select. If one of them goes, you lose that speed and keep the others. If you replace the resistor and continue to have a problem, you might want to remove the motor assembly completely and have it bench tested.

I just purchased a 96 metro geo, has 47,500 miles on it. While test driving it, the fan (air/heater) worked for a few minutes then stopped. Did it again. Could it be the switch or do you think it's the...

It is most likely the switch or the blower motor or the speed control resistor assy or solid state speed control, not sure which you have, check the blower first ( when it stops running) then the switch with a 12 volt test light to see if voltage is present. does this happen at all blower speeds??
