Sensor could be failed or intermittent. East to test with ohm meter.

Check the mass air flow meter,, on the air intake hose. ONLY USE AIR FLOW METER CLEANER! First I would check the air filter. sounds like the engine is starving for air. Check all your vacuum lines also for leaks. Make sure all are attached to where they go. Also a possible dirty throttle body !

2003 be jetta won't go more than 20 mph

Hi there? It sounds like the car is ranning on limp mode. Is the engine managment light on? if so, the air flow meter can cause this simptons. If you disconnect the air flow meter which is located next to the air filter box, it should improve it if it is disconnected, don't worry this will not cause any problems.
If it improves it by disconnecting the air flow meter then you'll need a new air flow meter..
Good luck......

99 Eclipse 2.4 cid idles erratically and eventually stalls. Unplug the air flow meter and idle quality gets much better and does not stall. Does this mean I have a defective air flow meter? Engine codes...

couple of possible problems

first thing i would check is to make sure air intake hose between Mass air flow sensor and intake doesn't have any cracks holes make sure clamps are tight

secondly check for vacuum leaks carb cleaner works great for this spray around intake gaskets throttle body fuel injectors vacuum lines when spraying u notice change in idle (if idle picks up or stubles) that where your problem is example you spray around intake gasket and idle picks up you have bad intake gasket

third thing is to try and clean the mass air flow sensor they make special cleaner for this (u can use carb cleaner for this but it can leave residue on sensor and damage it so it not recomended)

my best guess for you with all three o codes is you have a vacuum leak somewhere

most possibly it could be the air mass sensor ( air flow meter) first check air flow meter, if you get in to the workshop and fixed the diagnose cpu you can see the fault code, if not the air flow meter next have to check crank angle sensor, if you check the fault code you can see what's wrong, if the fault code like mixtcher information retch or Lin replace air flow meter,

CAR STALLS INTERMITTANLY- WILL START AFTER WAITING SOME TIME ALREADY REPLACED COMPUTER, O2 SENSOR, EGR VALVE- IGNITIONAL MODULE

At some point you will need to verify fuel pressure and consider possible failing fuel pump.Early on these can be intermittant causing fuel loss to the injector.key on/engine off cycle will run the pump for 3 seconds. In a quiet place, like an enclosed garage you can listen to the pump running and many times in a failing state,it might sound abnormal, louder and squeelish in a sense which may substantiate this possibility.Other possibilities include air flow meter connected to the air intake tube. These were notorious for cold solder joints inside the electronic board.A tap test is helpfull on this problem.Gently tap the air flow meter and if it creates a miss while doing so,this could certainly be the culprit....good luck

Repair air flow meter

jjj8000: Your car uses what is called a "Hot wire air mass sensor"
This cylindrical black plastic component which has screens at both ends and an electrical connector with roughly 6 pins, is not a serviceable component. It has a set of wires inside of it which after the engine is shut off, gets to a temp over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit to burn off residue collected on it during the time air has been passing over it. If I could repair this type of component in my shop, I would stand to make a lot of money! Unfortunately, it takes specialized testing equipment for the remanufacturing process. Not to mention the replacement components to put in to replace the ones needed to rebuild the cores.
I wish I could give you a better answer, but it's the only one I know. However, prior to condemning the air flow meter, make sure you have made the proper diagnosis. FALSE AIR problems are often diagnosed as air flow meters. Check and make sure the boots (hoses) which the attach the the air flow meter and go to the throttle body, have no tears or leaks. Make sure you have no split vacuum lines or hoses. Remember, the ECM determines the injector pulse width by the amount of air metered through that component. If any un-metered air that passes after the air flow meter, will create a situation of hesitation and stumbling, lean conditions and more. DO YOU HOMEWORK!"
