2001 golf gti clunks when i let clutch out very cold

Usually it locate at the end of upper water hose of the engine.

no its a new clutch cable for this vehicle as its auto adjust cable ,so when new one is fitted do not remove the clamping piece of wire in the middle of the cable till its all fitted

My VW Golf gti. I have just had a service and my sevice light come on when i turn on the ignition, can you tell me how to turn it off please

Your clutch cable snapped. Take it to a mechanic.

check the coolant temp sender,also have the fault codes read with a diagnostic machine

a GTI has to have turbo and intercooler to be called a GTI.
So, all GTI's have turbo

from what you describe this is the clutch assy/driveplate in early stage of requiring renewal as a clutch assy! based on age of car and milage?? this is a not too difficult diy if you wish and you can save ££££ $$$ s in garage costs ? why not price up clutch assy from motor store/superstore ? who normally stock these other than dealers then enquire on cost for garage/dealer to provide and fit same ? you will be surprised on labour charge ? advise!obtain a haynes manual it will give proceedure with pictures to follow on how to do this job

You blew the clutch cylinder or the related slave cylinder.  Refill with brake fluid and check for leaks and remember to bleed out the air.

the golf gti was plauged with a fault which vw will not own upto. it is a know fact that the induction manifold can sometimes fracture and allow unwanted air in when hot. if well serviced you will find this to be the problem. if not then i would strongly recomend that you service it.
