Check under the glove box door to see if you can see the hinges. Sometimes you can unscrew the hinges from the bottom. Else you have to knock out the hinge pin on both hinges, open the door from the bottom and see if you can swing the door up to undo the latch.
If this does not work, cut a hole in the bottom ot the glove box, it is usually made of plastic or papier mache, release the latch from inside, then you can remove the plastic box once it is open and replace it with a new one. It will cost you, but it will be less expensive that breaking down the metal door!

The latch of the glove compartment broke. Can't open the compartment

If you look under glove box you will see two to four screws that hold the glove box on. Take out the screws and the glove box will drop down and you can get inside and release latch..then you can get a replacement latch and replace.

Glove box latch is broken cant open it want to replace it but cant remove it

Guess what? Volkwagen makes you buy the entire glove box assembly, including lock and door in gray, black or beige for around $145. No way to fix the latch because it is encased in sealedand glued plastic. Good luck! Mine just broke, also.

The glove compartment latch on my 1995 SL1 is broken and now I can't open it. You can pull on the latch and it moves but does not release. How do I open it without tearing up the dash?

you can open it by manipulating the plastic handle a bit.You will have to get a little rough with it to get it to open but it will.2 phillips screws hold it to the glove box door when you get to it.

2000 Toyota Corolla VE -- Glove Box Stuck

The most common cause is something inside the glove box jammed in the latch. Push glove box door release , and GENTLY insert a flat putty knife, plastic knife, or similar type tool in the groove of door, GENTLY try to pry open the door. U will probably (hopefully) find a napkin, map, or glove (does anybody actually put gloves in the glove box?) jammed in the inside latch. Let me know how u make out.

Glove box, LOCK BROKEN IN LOCK POSITION

If the glove box is anything like mine it is a modular piece assembled with screws.... let them break the handle.. get a replacement first from a junk dealer and have the broken part swapped out. Its like a seat belt catch in my 97 deville. The glove box in mine flopped open and the catch had broken and fell down the door of the glovebox itself. The whole door is assembled with philips screws and should be easily removed and a new latch put in.. whoever does it should not cost more than 50.00 in labor MAYBE unless you have a friend that would do it for a beer. I saw a complete glove box on ebay for 40.00 shipping ontop of that .. i saw the latch for 20.00 +shipping.
