I replaced the malfunctioning “thermal actuator” with the “Warn” Vacuum actuator setup, it’s been working great for about 7 years now, simple install, if I remember correctly, it was about $150.
That’s what engages the front diff into 4wd.

Sounds like a bent fork in the transfer case. It is a common problem with your truck. The transfer case is a np236. If it just recently started doing this, the rebuild will cost around $800. If the 4wd has been acting up for a while, the planetary will probably need changed, which is another $200.

well typically is there is a noise when making a turn its caused by a bad cv-joint but if your having problems with the 4 wheel drive i would look at the linkage to the transfer case and make sure there is not to much play or bent or broke rods and stuff.

How do I put the 4 wheel drive into gear on a 2500 hd silveraldo automatic

If its got the lever on the floor. put in drive, let the truck come to about 5mph and let it roll and pull lever to 4 wheel HIgh/never use low unless you get stuck (AND DON'T use 4wd ON DRY PAVEMENT,(TRY FOR A SECOND AND TRY TO TURN GOING SLOW AND YOU'LL SEE WHY,IT WILL RUIN YOUR TRUCK!)Don't keep your truck in 4wd unless you have to (FULL SNOW COVERED ROADS).If your truck is older, and your gonna be in 4 wheel drive for a extended time lock the hubs (if IT HAS THEM ,NEWER ONES WON'T)I had a 1994 silverado chyenne 2500 nice truck, wrapped it around a tree a week after I finished putting 7G's into it ,I loved that truck :'(

Service 4 wheel drive message comes on and no lights for 2and 4 wheel drive come on. On my 2004 gmc

Often lights under a dash or indicators just blow out bulbs. If more than one thing isn't lighting and are centralized check fuses to see if its blown. Bulb or fuse. IMHO. MIGHT be a sensor on tranny too. Hope not.

Here's a video with detaile dinstrauctions and other people's fuse questions. New fuses?

I have a 2004 2500 HD My 4 wheel drive suddenly quit working I put in a new actuator My 4 wheel drive indicator light show I'm in 4 high or 4 low you can hear my transfer case shift but it still won't go...

May be the problem is not in the actuator in the case but in the actuator that engages the hub locks . Check for vacuum line / electrical wires faults . The noise may be from the hub lock or from a cv joint in that side.

I need a wiring diagram for the 4 wheel drive in a 1988chevy 2500 4 wheel drive

Check for burnt or damaged sires going to the servo on the transfer case. It looks like a electric motor bolted on the bottom of the T case.

I have a 2002 gmc sierra 2500 hd and the 4 wheel drive is not working. the light comes when i push the 4hi button and i here somthing move in the t-case. i tryed a new actuator and still no 4 wheel drive?

It is the buttons. It is about a $50 part new on ebay. Easy to replace. Just pull gently on the dash bezel. I believe there are two screws/bolts. Pull it out and disconnect the wire harness. Then just plug it in and put it back together.
