If the engine runs without it being connected or does not set a service code then it may not be needed for your engine. Wiring harnesses are designed to fit a wide range of options in a vehicle that may not be in your vehicle.

Can not get the 4WHL DR To Work Seem,s lie it is Electrical

If it IS electrical, check all the wiring harnesses on the transfer case & clean them. Then check the actuator on the front differential. This is the unit that alows you to "shift on the fly"

How do I set the timing on a new engine?I installed a rebuilt 4.3L W type and cant get it to fire.Do I Have to disconnect a wire to time it?

Hi there is a tan/black wire it should be just above the carpet on the passenger side of the truck. you will need to disconnect this and set the timing then reconnect it and clear the timing code. If this motor will not fire you may want to check and make sure the distributor is set in and timed right. the rotor on these motors dont point at the number one spot on the cap.

Transfer case engages , but the front differential doesn't

There is an actuator motor on the front axle, to the right of the center section that locks the front axle. With the ignition on and the transfer case in 4whl drive check that the two wires at the actuator motor have a power and ground. If it does then the motor is likely bad. They aren't too expensive. Runs around $270 from GM, but can be had for under $100 aftermarket. They are easy to install, disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew it from the axle housing.
This is what you'll be looking for.

This is an image of the early design. The new design is mostly plastic and doesn't have the wires attached. I'm not 100% sure which design your vehicle has.

Replacing starter on 01 4.0 s-type

should be at the back of the motor down near the bottom of the block and should have a thick battery cable and a couple of smaller electrical wires connected to it.
Not sure which side of the block it is on but it has to turn the flywheel to start it.

1996 ford explorer stuck in 4whl dr low

this may be no help atall, but i had a GMC pickup once, and there is a vacuum switch that was stuck and that was causing my problem. it was around a $300 dollar fix, and that was 8 years ago, so i imagine it is quite a bit more expensive now.
