Run a scanner if you can. It sounds like your purge valve but if light kicks on and of might be a bad catalytic if this veh blew a head gasket in the past you got water threw the cat it damaged it thats why when you idle long it builds fumes and trigger the oxygen sencor.

Get a diagnostic check before you start guessing and spending money. One of those devices can be purchased for about the cost of taking your car to the mechanic. If you are near an AutoZone they will sometimes check it for free.

You may have to take it to a shop and have them connect their OBD tool to the computer and clear the deep memory. If you have a code left in the deep memory it can reapear like that. Good luck. Please rate me so I know how I'm doing. Thanks.

SOURCE: "check engine light flashing"

The flashing check engine light is typical of a misfire issue. There are two things I would do to start with.

1. Take the vehicle to an auto parts store like Autozone and have them hook up their scan tool so that they can retrieve stored trouble codes. Even if the check engine light is not on, they should be able to retrieve recently stored codes.

2. Do a complete tune up. New plugs, new plug wires, new air filter, new fuel filter if it has not been done recently.

If the parts store pulls the codes and they cannot tell you what they mean, post them up here and I will see what I can dig up for you.

SOURCE: 2003 Silverado rough idle, idles good after "check engine" light

Check your o2 sensor voltage, those trucks are real bad for o2 sensors, and yes if one sensor is reading 0mv, the others will start to drop out, and the vehicle will run very, rough. You also may check fuel system pressure, should be almost 60p.s.i. If its alot lower, Id be looking into a fuel pump. If that vehicle is drive-by-wire (no throttle cable), the throttle bodies get very dirty and cause that concern also. Id start by having the vehicle scantested.

SOURCE: Wife's durango is idling rough and running rough

With both codes pointing at TP sensor, I'd certainly take the time to replace it, as well as make sure connections to it are clean, and good. Chances are, you won't be able to take part back anyway. As far as exhaust goes, if it's leaking in the right places in may cause improper readings at sensors downstream, but if not obvious leak, I wouldn't be concentrating in that area right now.

Why does my 2006 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 ltre have an uneven idle when running and in park. no check engine light.

You need to clean the throttle body and the idle air control motor. Use brake clean and a toothbrush. Clean inside the throttle as far as you can and clean especially the back of the throttle plate and where it sits when it is shut. It's best to remove the Idle control motor and clean it with the brush. But you can start the engine and clean it some by revving it up and spraying into the throttle around the hole for the motor. It will take a second or two to start after cleaning.

My 2006 Liberty has a similar issue. The oil light beeps and then the engine shuts off. I put the car in park and it restarts and the oil light goes off. I had the oil, filter, and lines checked and everything checked out. The mechanic thinks it may be the oil sensor going out and that for safety reasons the engine shuts down when the oil light comes on.

If no evidence of anything wrong with the codes your being told to check. It might be your ECM is bad, I had a friend had similar problems and they put a new ECM in it and it ran great again.

Reduced engine power silverado 2006.Engine light came on.Stopped vehicule shut off engine and restarted.engine light stayed on and had lots of power.

You need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Whatever happened stopped after you restarted the engine, but the engine light wont go off until the ignition cycles many times without any problems. Any parts store will scan your truck for free. Have them scan it and clear the codes, and come back here and let us know what code/s you get.

95 cutlass supreme's random misfire has mechanic stumped.

SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD BE A BAD CONNECTION AT THE BATTERY. IF THE TERMINALS ARE LOOSE OR CORRODED THEY CAN DISPLAY SOME OF THESE SYMPTOMS. IF THEY ARE TIGHT AND CORROSION FREE, THEN HAVE THE BATTERY CHECKED FOR VOLTAGE AND COLD CRANK AMPERAGE AT YOUR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. MOST AUTO PARTS PLACES CHECK THIS FOR FREE. BUT DON'T RULE OUT A BAD BATTERY CABLE. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. GOOD LUCK

Possibly water in the fuel? The one thing it could be is the idle air control switch. Some of these can be removed and reset.
