O/d off light flashing

My o/d off light started blinking while driving around 50 mph this week. There are no shifting problems at all and shutting off the vehicle resets the flashing light. I am told the previous owner recently pulled the dash apart to replace lights for the dash. Could this be causing the flasing o/d off light? I did go and get the error code from autozone, P0781.

check engine means you have to check your engine and open your trunk first and then check the engine. Once you open and check the engine and check if the engine lights still on. it should disappear in no time. Thanks for the time

Rear end howls and vibrates, most noticeable at 50-65 mph. Noise only depends upon vehicle speed, does not change with gear or if in neutral.

Sounds liike a ring and pinion on rear differential. U can pull the cover off and check this or another thing would be to check your u-joints.

Transmission over drive is causing the transmission to slip. When I take off the overdrive the transmission functions normally but it uses much more gas.

Roger, that doesn't even make a whole lot of sense to me. If the overdrive is causing the transmission to slip, wouldn't it also cause the fuel mileage to go down? Are you sure the transmission is slipping? Or is the transmission simply shifting in and out of overdrive? If it is, is it shifting at the proper speeds? Driving at around 40 - 50 Mph will sometimes make the transmission go in and out of overdrive repeatedly. This can be perfectly normal.

Have you checked your transmission fluid level?

Is your overdrive off light flashing? If the transmission is actually slipping the OD OFF light should be blinking at you to let you know there is a transmission problem. Either that, or the Check Engine light will be coming on. In either of these cases, you need to scan your onboard computer network for possible fault codes.

My car randomly shuts off while driving. I could be going 50 mph or 10 and it will do it and it used to happen like once every 2 weeks and nows its happening once a day.

Wiggle the keys around when the car is running and see if you can repeat the problem. If so replace the ignition switch.

Maybe a transmission problem?

If you're only in "D", you should switch to "OD" when driving at higher speeds. "D" only allows you to move up to third gear whereas "OD" will move you into fourth. You're over-working your transmission by driving in "D".

Engine knocking/vibration

A few different things could be causing this, most are internal engine components. First off, take your tires and have them balanced to make sure you didn't accidently fling off a tire weight when you hit a pothole. Next, if that is not it, either you have a blown head gasket, cracked rings, or bad rod/main bearings.
