All lights on the dash are usually sensors and switches, so no I don't think it's the ignition switch causing it. Best luck to you

Remove the ignition switch cylinder and inspect the contacts in the column. Look for dark spots, scratches, excessive scuffing. My guess is that cleaning the contacts with a little tiny piece of sandpaper and perhaps bending them out a little (so there is more pressure between the contacts when you reinstall the cyclinder) will cure the problem.

Car with padlock symbol ,check engine ,service engine soon etc.... The starting system on your vehicle is computer controlled as many fuctions are ! The ignition switch is a low voltage input to the BCM - body control module . Your best bet , take it back to the dealer .

Recall ID # 103891 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH minus.gif Hide Details Recall Date:
JUN 26, 2014
Model Affected:
2008 Dodge Grand Caravan
Summary:
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured June 29, 2007, to June 17, 2010, and 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles manufactured January 26, 2007, to June 17, 2010. Road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Consequences:
If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the OFF or ACCESSORY position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Remedy:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will modify the ignition switch, free of charge. Chrysler sent out an interim notification to owners on September 11, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is L25. Note: This is an expansion of recall 11V-139.
Potential Units Affected:
525206
Notes:

WILL TURN OVER BUT WILL NOT START

There are 2 possibilities: the spark plugs are not firing or the fuel system is clogged.

There are 2 ignition switch recalls for your vehicle:

Check your vehicle for the recall service stickers or call BMW and have your VIN number ready when you call and have them run your vehicle service history.

They should be able to tell you if the recall had been performed on your car.

Why not have recalls on2008 trailblazers for ignition switches

Yea I have problems with my ignition too. I was assuming the it was just because I brought the car used. My ignition has a habit of staying on when you shut the engine off. This lets the battery light stay on in the dashboard and I've had my battery run down and everything. so finally fed up,I went to my mechanic and they said I need a new ignition, but I had no idea others complained about the very same thing!i wish they would fix that so I didn't have to shell out money on too of that too. Hope you find a solution to your prom ken soon...

Take the car back to the dealer, or if you can get someone to do a scan for fault codes too, that could send you I the right direction. Aske the dealer if there are any ignition switch harness recalls.

Your vehicle may be part of a recall from Hinda/Acura. This recall involves most models, years 1998-2002. Defective part is Ignition Switch. Typical symptoms include: Random Long/Hard starts, stalls while driving (when this happens speedo drops to "0" while car is in motion), No spark, some warning lights are not lit (when key is set to "ON")..typically happens more often in hotter or humid weather. Call your local dealer with your VIN# on hand, and refer to a 2002 Honda/Acura recall regarding Ignition Switch Failure.

Your vehicle may be part of a 2002 honda/acura recall. Faulty ignition switch!! Typical symptoms are: Random stalls, hard start, no spark, power loss (symptoms progress in hotter weather). When the vehicle stalls/shuts off while in motion, usually the speedometer drops to "0" while in motion. Some warning light not lit when ignition is set to "on" (chk engine/ABS/Brake etc.). Call your local dealer with your VIN# on hand and check if your vehicle is part of the recall. Refer to faulty ignition switches, affected years (1998-2002 models), accords/preludes/pilot/Odyssey/Civic/CR-V and various Acura models.

No spark and no rpms showing on tach while cranking over?

when ignition switch is placed on "on", are several lights not lit on the instrument panel. Such as check engine, abs, battery, oil..etc!! All warning lights are to be lit momentarily when the ignition is placed in "on" position. This vehicle may be part of a recall in 2002, which replaces faulty ignition switches. Poor design of internal contacts and excessive power consumption leads to power failure to vital engine components. Typical symtoms include: intermitted stalling, no spark, hard starts. Inspect the ignition switch for dark residue, and replace if necessary!!

All electronic accessories work when key is in

test power at the starter's power wire. If there is voltage, replace starter. If there is no power, check fuses/relays, if those are fine, check ignition switch (there is a recall on this since 2002). Typical symtoms of ignition switch failure on these vehicles include: Some warning lights not lit when key is turned to ON (ABS, battery, check engine, oil light etc.), Intermitted hard start/No start, stalling while driving, intermitted guage failure. If it is an ignition switch failure, call your local honda dealer for possible free repair under the recall(have your VIN# at hand). hopefully this helps

Failed emmission mot & light says service required and cuts revs

What really happens is your service check indicator light switches itself on due to completion of 10,000 or 5,000 Km (depending on the manufacturer's specs) from your previous oil change or service. The internal clock keeps track of your mileage travelled and let you know when the 10,000 or 5,000 km is up. All that is required is to RESET the service indicator light. On some cars, the resetting of the service light can be done by the car owner which normally involves pressing a button at the front Instrument Panel and so on and so forth. If you have the user manual for your car, I suggest you read it to see if there is anything on resetting the service light.
The bad news is not all vehicle manufacturers have a reset button at the front dashboard, and some requires the use of a Diagnostic Scanner to do this. Ask your mechanic if you are not sure.
The speed is cut down to 60 is due to the fact that if you continue to drive your car after the prescribed mileage without changing the engine oil, there will be 'accelerated' wear and tear to your engine and perhaps even an early engine overhaul. Driving with a long overdue engine oil change is bad but driving it at speed would be worst. I believe you get the drift.
As for your mot test, it is mandatory that no warning light whatsoever should appear at the instrument panel but yours showed up.
