If the key turns and the door won't unlock, work the power lock switch between lock and unlock, several times, that might free it up. If the key does not turn, shoot some WD-40 into the key hole and then try working the key in and out several times, before trying to turn the key. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: rear hatch wont open

Spray WD-40 or similar lube in key slot, using red tube from can & insert it as far in the key slot as you can, and spray it often & lots, it may take quite a few times, or it may not release at all, but keep working the key in & out and try to turn as well as keep trying your power lock & remote. Get as much spray as you can up inside the handle area too especially at both ends. It's a hit & miss but you may get lucky. If you do get it open, you need to remove the inside panel & get to all the linkages, especially pivot points & spray them down good to unseize them, then after, coat them well with white lithium grease.

2002 Kia Rio haTCH WONT OPEN. DO NOT HAVE KEY. LOCKSMITH SAID I MUST TAKE LOCK OUT FOR HIM TO MAKE KEY. BUT i CANT GET HATCH OPEN

If you can get the rear hatch trim off with the door closed, then you could release the lock mechanism from the inside. If you cannot get the rear hatch trim off, then you will have to do this from the outside. Either the locksmith can key it while still in the car, or you will have to destroy the old lock and get a new one.

Locked trunk

The release contact switch must be dirty and corroded...you will have to jiggle the rear hatch...when trying to open again...when open spray the hold down bracket, and the under side of the hatch that makes contact...the best spray for this is PB Blaster, available at Walmart auto parts section...this will not hurt the electric contacts...as you still cannot open the rear hatch, you will need to remove the inside panel of the rear hatch to expose the release arm on the inside of the hatch. Hope this helps.

Rear hatch wont open on a 2010 dodge caliber

There is no lever or any key hole it is a fully electric operated power latch. As to the cause the park brake must be engaged and the car in park gear position before the hatch will open, is it?

Rear door wont open-hatch or window - can open hatch with inside release

Sometimes there is a safety sensor that does not allow it to open if the vehicle is in gear. This sensor may be faulty but most likely not the problem. Remove the inner panel on the back hatch and inspect the linkages from the outside handles to the releases inside the door for the glass and hatch. These have most likely came loose from the latches they operate
