SOURCE: 1991 jeep wrangler gas leak

Hello everyone,l

For those of you who haven't started removing the gas tank, I'll start from the beginning.
You will need a 1/2" socket, ratchet, extensions, flat head, needle nose, floor jack, rag, broomstick,. A creeper will make this easier. Depending on your dimensions and the height of the frame on your particular vehicle, you may be able to use it without jacking the vehicle up..

  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal
  • If your engine is fuel injected, you need to relieve the line pressure. This is done from the injector rack on top of the engine. About the center of the rack you will find what looks like a filler valve on your tire, only thicker. The fuel line can maintain over 40 P.S.I. pressure even with key off. Place a rag over the pressure relief valve. Use the corner of a screwdriver to poke the center core through the rag. A second or two should do it.
  • Place a floor jack under the gas tank shield, jack it up until snug.
  • Disconnect the rear exhaust hanger.
  • Loosen and remove the three shield nuts above the rear end
  • Remove the plastic shield from beneath the left rear corner. Two plastic anchors hold it on. Disengage them by pulling the center plug out about 1/2". This will expose the hoses connecting the tank to the body.
  • Loosen the hose clamps
  • If you can get them to twist, try and get them off.
  • Rear nuts next. Loosen and remove all but the center one.
  • Make sure the jack is centered and snug
  • Remove the last nut. The tank isn't going to DROP. It will kind of lean, and jam against the exhaust.
  • Insert the broom stick into the exhaust pipe.
  • Push and hold it to the right, slowly let the jack down. Stop if it hangs up and work it free.
  • When its down far enough to access the top of the tank, disconnect the plug, loosen thew hose clamps, remove the hoses, separate the vent hoses at the 'T' connector.
  • Lower it the rest of the way
  • The tank can now be separated from the shield.
If you were experiencing a line leak, the top of the tank is where you'll find it. Inspect hoses, gaskets and connections

SOURCE: how to replace a jeep tj fuel tank?

I would be really careful with doing this repair as this is very dangerous. You need to relieve the fuel pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse and starting the truck. Drain the tank with a siphon pump. Remove any exhaust or other parts that are in the way, loosen the straps and support the tank with a floor jack and a block of wood. There are several hoses, and a few wire connectors to disconnect and you may want to replace those hoses while you're down there. Once you put the new tank in, reconnect the electrical and hoses, raise the tank and strap it back up. Put anything else back together you took off the truck.
Personally, I would take this in to get fixed as this is dangerous work (I did mention that). I you do this anyway, use your head and buy a proper container to hold the gas in , as well as jackstands and a class "B" fire extinguisher. Disconnect the battery and don't smoke or use a drop light under the car, and I will not accept responsibility for this.

SOURCE: Jeep wrangler Fuse box

You have two locations for the fuse box. One is either under the hood or behind the glove box. I would pull apart the glove box and take a look.

1997 jeep wrangler overheating

bought a used 97 jeep that apparently had the same problem and had a low temp thermostat installed in attempt to cure the problem. I noticed when draining the radiator that only 1/2 of fluid came out. I jumped up/down on bumper and dislodged sludge and other half of fluid. Flushed system twice and then noticed temp gauge was now registering low, out of specs. Placed in correct thermostat and all problems solved.

Jeep wrangler is using too much gas

I have a 4cyl 97 jeep wrangler. My fuel economy went from 75-80 miles per 1/4 tank to 55-60 miles per 1/4 tank of gas. I traced this to a bad coolant temp sensor (replace twice), and fouled O2 sensors believed caused by my self by placing too much oil on spector air filter (now wipe off excess and let dry in sun), and using carb cleaner and or gas treatment (stopped using). fuel economy went back up to 75-85 miles per 1/4 tank. (also disruption of sensor input/output signals didn't help from battery sliding into computer wiring harness, which I cured by placing a 1" spacer on rear clamp to keep battery away from computer.)

Load clunk from under my 2003 Jeep Wrangler when going over bumps

You need to get the vehicle up on a hoist. It can be any number of things like a broken muffler mount, gas tank strap, undercarriage spare tire, and even a loose rear bumper. Shock absorbers could be worn out, a broken leaf on a spring, etc.

These are just some of the things possible.

Both headlights out on 1997 Jeep Wrangler. Don't see a fuse in the box in the dashboard indicating headlamps. Looked in the engine compartment, but don't know which fuse to check.

There is a fuse box under the hood on the passenger side remove the cover and the #10 fuse is for the headlamps. Look on under side of cover for fuse #s.

Front bumper damaged.

It's pretty easy to remove the front bumper.

  1. Remove the plastic "air dam" below the bumper by unscrewing and then popping out the four plastic connectors underneath, then two on the sides.
  2. If you have fog lights, disconnect them by reaching up and behind the bumper.
  3. Using an 18mm socket, remove the nuts that hold the bumper to the frame. They will be located immediately behind the tow hooks, if you have them, or the small bumps where the tow hooks would protrude.
  4. Slide the bumper off.
Here's a link to a writeup for installing an aftermarket bumper, but steps 1-11 explain how to remove the factory one, and it includes pictures.
