when you crank the engine you have to check if spark plugs fire if not maybe your crank sensor is bad, thats why car wont start, your distrbutor is turning when crancking? did you cnange distributor cap and rotor?
If your engine cranks normally
but will not start and cuts off because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart
because it has no spark, the problem may be due to any of the following: A bad pickup inside the
distributor a stripped distributor drive gear (common problem with plastic
distributor drive gears, broken, loose
or corroded wires from the pickup to the ignition module orPCM. If there is power going from the coil to the dist, but no spark coming out of the dist. the Condenser is bad. Small round thing that has a wire that hooks to the points. If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on. If there is voltage, the problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit). If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit). If the coil has voltage, the problem may be a bad high voltage output wire from the coil to the distributor, hairline cracks in the coil output tower, or cracks or carbon tracks inside the distributor cap or on the rotor. You can check this with voltmeter.------------------ That's it.
CHECK THE COLD START INJECTOR ON THE INTAKE MANIFIOLD.
1. UNPLUG THE POWER WIRES TO THE IGNITION COIL(NOT THE HI VOLTAGE WIRE TO THE DISTRIBUTOR)
2, UN BOLT AND PULL OUT THE COLD START INJECTOR(LEAVE IT PLUGED IN TO POWER AND FUEL
3. BREIFLY CRANK OVER THE ENGINE AND WATCH THE SPRAY FROM THE TIP. (A FIRE EXTINGUSHER WOULD BE A VERY GOOD IDEA)
4. HOW DID THE SPRAY LOOK
WAS THE SPRAY QUICK, IN A FINE MIST? IF SO ITS OK AND NOT THE PROBLEM.
IF IF IT RAN ON, A STEADY STREAM OR POURED OUT THERE IS SOME THING WRONGE WITH THE COLD START INJECTOR
You replaced the starter, plugs, wires, coil, battery and distributor. That should take care of the spark and the start. My only other guess would be that it isn't getting fuel all the time? Could be a fuel filter or pump. Good luck.
since it ran fine at first, I would think you got the cams and crank correctly timed. the two connections in the diag box to connect are "T" and "E1". You may want to check out the distributor to see if the air gaps from the star wheel to the pick up coil projections are less or more than the correct--.008-.016". If so, the bearing is bad (the star wheel will wobble) and you should replace the distributor. Also, the distributor has three coils in it that should be checked for proper resistance--140-180 ohms. The car will run with one of the three coils dead but not as smoothly.
In the 1988's to the 94's they had a lot of distributor's go bad. I know it sounds funny but I have worked on them for over 20 years. You can replace the module or the pickup coil in the distributor, which is about the only two parts you haven't changed, and still not start but if you buy a rebuilt distributor it would most likely solve your problem.
