If the engine dies at a stop or when you have the foot on the brakes, it will be a brake booster problem. If the engine dies at idle with just the hand brake on the problem may be electronic
Use the correct method to scan the fault codes as all disconnecting the battery is likely to do is energize the immobiliser and then it will not start at all

Testimonial: "thanks man, there is one unusual thing is that the car runs better with the battery disconnected"

therer is a haevy draw ojn the alternator when running as it supplies power to all the car as well as charge the battery. If the battery is faulty ( short in a cell) most of the current will be feeding that short and depriving the electronics of the correct operating current. It is bad practice to remove a battery terminal while running as it damages the alternator but in yoir case it appears that without the battery the alternator is delivering full power for the electronics.

Have a load test done on the battery to check if it is faulty.check that all terminals are shiny clean and tight.

I have a 2001 monster Carlo 3.4, was driving and car was running fine all the sudden started losing speed and went to pull off free way and it died. Won't start, Silence when I try to start it.

IF you try to start it and turn the key and get NOTHING. The most likely cause of everything is: The alternator died and quit charging the battery. The battery died while you were driving because there was no alternator charging it. When the battery died, all the ignition signals stopped.

Have the battery tested under load at a battery shop. Is there any noise, like a ticking sound, this indicates the battery doesn't have enough power to crank the engine.

I changed my spark plugs and cleaned my mass airflow sensor with maf cleaner. The truck didn't want to start but it finally did. When if did it had a sulfur smell but went away. The truck wouldn't...

When you cleaned your maf sensor did you disconnect your negative battery cable. If you cleaned the maf senor without disconnecting the battery cable there is a chance that you shorted out the sensor. Try unplugging the sensor and see if the truck runs any different. If it does not run any different with the maf sensor unplugged then you will know you found your problem. I hope this helps you out, and good luck

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy XL. I replaced the battery yesterday and when I started the car, the engine had a VERY rough idle, died a couple of times and then the SES light came on. I was told to drive the car...

When you disconnected the battery, the PCM (power control module) was reset to factory default. You can try driving it with several engine on/engine off cycles. Get it up to 50 mph each time so the computer can recognize the transmission operation also. Hope this helps.

2003 Camry won't stay idling after I changed battery

This is extremely common :)

With time your throttle body gets gummed up with oily residue from the PCV system. As this happens, the computer adapts to the restriction it causes in the throttle body.
When you unhook the battery, these learned values are lost and the default settings for idle control are used. Unfortunately the default settings are no longer sufficient to keep the idle correct with it all gummed up.

Take your intake hoses off the throttle bodies and clean the insides (open the throttle plates for better access) with a rag and some brake parts cleaner or throttle plate cleaner, available from your local parts store.

Reassemble and start the car, your idle problems should be gone immediately.

I have a 1996 2.5 liter Dodge dakota that will turn over but not

im assuming youve done basic tune up of plugs, wires, air and fuel filters, oil, distributor if applicable (im guessing not but never owned a dodge)

if it bogs down/stalls at stops only when its hot, try a new egr valve. probably getting stuck open. if not that try heavier oil to see if its losing compression, just one step up. also,

if it runs ok after clearing the computer by disconnecting the battery for a while, probably a dying sensor (most likely o2)

if after clearing computer it still runs bad after warm up, see if it bogs down really bad when letting it warm up from cold without driving (just idle to make sure its not egr system). if it dies or sounds like its close to dead, then its probably something fuel related (clogged/faulty injector, worn fuel pump, bad pump relay)

hope it helps
