You should check the owners manual of the car, many write it inside there, for VW it comes on a small card, if your not the original owner of the car you may have to contact the dealership and give them the numbers off of the back of the radio (yea, the back, its a pain)
Please let the spark plug and ignition coil checked asap and if that shows ok, then do an engine compression test , this may help to resolve the issue.
asr works in conjunction with abs.to stop a wheel it(the car)thinks is loosing grip, from spinning.By applying the brakes to the wheel that is loosing grip,so the car is applying the brake. hence the juddering. if it stops when you turn it (asr)off it must be a sensor fault.easy way is to plug in the diagnostic computer to pinpoint faulty unit. if you dont drive very enthusiastically, then turn asr off until next mot/service.get back if you need any more info ....
it could be both.but most likely cluster.scan the car while driving and check if scanner shows the speed .if it shows the speed that mean cluster is bad if it does not check the wiring and speed sensor in the transmission.thanks
100% sure it shows one of your cylinder compression is weak, please do a compression test to isolate the problem and get the head/pistons checked . This is a known problem with VW/Skoda 1.2 3 cylinder mills..
