Makes clanking while in reverse is it the struts or the u joint??

basically everything can didnt specify type of vehicle so well go thru list first tires out of balance or under inflated and or oversized for vehicle ---hub /wheel bearing going bad ---upper or lower ball joint bad or damaged ----upper or lower control arm bushings---shocks/struts bad ---tie rods not properly installed ---idler arm bad or damaged --steering box/steering rack bad or damaged

Suspension needs to be checked !ball joints ,shocks,struts ,tie rod ends and be she's.

SOUNDS LIKE THE CV JOINT IS BAD

If it makes a clanking sound when you switch from neutral to drive or neural to reverse than i would say you have a u-joint issue. If it you get noise when you accelerate and coast then your rear differential is out of alignment

Get your differential fluid checked and make sure you get synthetic for the rear if indicated. The clanking on turns reduces the possibility of the U-joints being the culprit. The driveshaft would give you noise going from reverse to drive, but in turns it is likely the clutches in the rear axle.

A four wheel drive can cause noise in all directions if the front drive has bad joints.

check the bushes

The best thing to do on the drumb size is pull one off and measure it, As far as the clanking noise best chk. the u-joints.

I would start with sway bar links because they do make clanking noises when worn. plus they are usually cheaper than a strut or a cv shaft...

likely a cv joint is failing.
