Depress and hold the "mode" and "safe" button at the same time until the number "1000" appears on the radio display. Release the numbers as soon as the "1000" appears.
Enter your 4 digit radio code. Use button #1 to enter first number. Use button #2 to enter second number etc... As soon as all of the numbers are entered the radio frequency will appear and the radio should be working normally.
usually when a code is needed you can talk to your local dealer and they should be able to get the code from the factory, when they get it usually you have turn the key to acc for about 5 minutes (sometimes longer) and then you input the code by whatever means like using your seek buttons to change the number and your volume knob or buttons to change which character you are wanting to change
May be you did it wrong the first two times and it's just locked itself.
To unlock it to a stage when you can put code in , you need to have it on for one hour .No matter how but it should be on for one hour(you can drive with it on , or put the key on and leave it with battery charger for one hour).
After that read manual carefully and follow instruction
step by step on how to put code in.
You have only two tries again. You do it wrong and radio will lock itself up.
1.) To begin, if your radio is
displays LOC, then proceed to step 2. If your radio says INOP, then
turn your ignition to the RUN position, and turn the radio ON. You must
leave it like this for a minimum of 1 hour (not 59 minutes) to
clear the INOP message. I would wait 1 1/2 hours just in case doing it
too early causes the timer to start over.
2.) Turn your ignition to RUN (if not already), and your radio to OFF.
Press and hold preset buttons 2 and 3 for around 5-10 seconds to obtain
a scrambled version of your radio's original factory set code.
3.) Call 800-537-5140 and ignore whatever you are promted to do (something about different dealer brands Chevy, Pontiac, saturn.), and type the number 202108 into your phone and then press the # button.
4.) Input your radio's 4 digit code into your phone when prompted, then
press the * button (NOT pound symbol like above step) and be ready with
a pen and paper to write down the unscrambled code. Keep this code
somewhere you WILL NOT lose it. I wrote mine in the notes section of
the owners manual.
5.) Once you have the code written down, press and hold 5 and 6 on your radio's preset buttons for 5-10 seconds.
6.) Then press the seek down button once to start the entry process.
7.) Using the following key, repeatedly press the buttons to set your code:
seek down = first digit
seek up = second digit
tune down = third digit
tune up = fourth digit
NOTE: I just checked a picture of the stereo out and discovered the
buttons have arrows facing left and right and not up and down. For the
purposes of this process, left represents down, and right represents up.
8.) Once you have the code entered, press AM/FM to set it. Try this
It has to be the wrong code. You have to take in to the VW dealership, (because of so many stolen radios), they will have to verify your registration. Then they will remove your radio, get the serial number put it in to VW hub<( dealership only VW repair site), and retrieve the correct code. Even though the code shown is in your owners manual should have been the correct code sometimes radios get switched. Question at the end you said you pressed seek- did you hold the right lower arrow button, (scan), in till radio began to play?
"2 safe" means that your radio was in safe mode, and then the code was improperly entered 2 times. you either need to disconnect your battery and leave it for up to 4 hours (i've been told), or leave your key in the ignition for around an hour.
once it comes out of "2 safe" mode, then it will just say SAFE and give you the numbers 1-0-0-0. You just need to enter the 4 digit code (using your pre-set numbers 1-2-3-4 to change the numbers), then hold the seek > button and your radio should come on.
If you don't have the code, call VW. they'll find your code for free. they did for me. if not they'll charge like $50 or something.
Step 11Seek and Scan buttonsPress and hold the SEEK and bottom SCAN buttons until "1000" appears, this should just be a few seconds.
Step 222Release the buttons and in put the code using the radio buttons. For example if your code is 1933, press the "1" button one time, then the "2" button 9 times, the "3" button 3 times and the "4" button 3 times.
Step 33Then press and hold again the SEEK and bottom SCAN until the word SAFE appears.
Step 44Release the buttons and the radio should start playing.
let the car run for fourty five minutes to an hour with the radio turned on. after that time turn the radio off press and hold presets 5 and 6 for about ten seconds then use the seek and tune buttons to put in your code. what was your code that you are entering is it your personal code or a default dealer code. your radio should display 1n0p is this right?
