I have a problem with the electric lock security system. Under normal conditions if I press the unlock on the key remote, the lights will flash once and the doors unlock. When I press the lock button on the key remote, the doors lock, the lights flash and the horn sounds once. Now I have a situation that the doors still unlock but no light flash when I press the unlock button. When I press the lock button, the doors lock, the lights flash but the horn does not sound. Any ideas of what has happened? This just started two weeks ago.
If this is a factory lock security system you can contact dealer for instruction sheet to re-program your remote or have them do that for you if vehicle is under warranty. if not you can go online and find the procedure for your make, model and year of vehicle. sounds like the remote's battery is need of replacing or the remote needs to be re-programmed
You nailed it, Larry :-)

You don't want to turn the security system completely off, besides there really is no need to. To arm and disarm the vehicle simply use the key in the drivers door. When you turn the key and lock the car the system will arm after about 30 seconds. When you come back to the car and unlock the car with the drivers door lock cylinder the system will unarm, just the same as if you were using the remote. If the system is unarmed and it still wont start you probably have a NATS issue with the key. This is different than simply disarming. You can't shut off or disarm the NATS system.

The title of you problem mentions the horn but the actual problem mentions the flashers? Which is it? You can turn the 'horn beep' feature on and off by simultaneously holding the lock and unlock buttons down on the remote for about 3 seconds or more. When the horn feature is turned on you will hear the horn, and when it turns off you will only see the lights flash.
SOURCE: Power door locks dont work
hello on the door locks not working could be a couple problems open the driver side door and were the door hinges are there is a small tube with wires in there that runs from the door into the side of the kick panel inside of the car these wires are your windowns locks and more now were the door open you will have to cut tube with a razr knife so you can see if any of the wires are broken now if there is no wires broken now the power door lock actuators inside the front right-and left door could be bad or the door look swiches this is not unlikey you can check this by removing the door panel you will see a rod or cable going from the door lock down the bottom of the door
now on the key not working that sounds like the door lock rods there that hooks to the lock on the inside of the door is off or one of the plastic clips that hold the rods has broken if it is not locking or unlocking your doors it is not unlikey for both sides to be broken you will have to remove the door panels to check
I has a similar problem and I just took the battery out of my remote. I think there is a problem/ short in the remote. It's as if the button is being pressed when it is not. I will use my spare one in the mean time. It was driving me crazy becuase I was driving long distance at the time and when I removed the battery it stopped. I hope this works for you!
SOURCE: 1995 Nissan Maxima alarm system
Hey, I bought my 1995 Nissan Maxima GLE brand new back in July 1994 with factory installed alarm, it just doen't make any sound when you arm or disarm it with remote. The only way you can tell whether it is armed or disarmed is from the lever position of your doors and the blinking red light under the dash. Only the newer versions of Nissan/Infiniti's has the "Audio/Silent" mode button on the remote which allows you to activate/deactivate you car alarm with an audiable sound or no sound at all. No worry, there is nothing wrong with your remote or car alarm.
Remote Control Fob Procedures:
The Central Door locking is controlled by the Multi-Remote Control system which controls
the door locking, door super locking and emergency hazard reminders.
When the doors are locked and unlocked the unit flashes the hazard lights once for lock and twice for unlock.
A maximum of four remote controls are allowed to be programmed:
ALMERA
ALMERA TINO
PRIMERA
MAXIMA
MICRA
SERENA
VANETTE CARGO
TERANO II
Ensure all the doors have been unlocked, either by using a good transponder key or remote
control plip key.
Procedure:
1. Turn the ignition switch from Position 0 to ON 6 times within 10 seconds.
2. Next, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Leave key in ignition switch.
3. Wait 2 seconds then the system will enter programming mode and will flash the warning
lights twice.
4. Press and HOLD the unlock button on the Plip.
5. While pressing the unlock button, press the lock button 3 times.
6. Release the unlock button.
7. The warning lights will flash once to indicate successful programming.
8. Repeat procedure 4 to 7 for up to 4 plip key's.
9. When completed turn ignition ON, and the warning lights will flash 2 times.
10. Remove key, and check all plip key's for operation.
NOTE : The programming mode will stop when either the ignition is switch ON, 4 plip keys
have been programmed or no input signal either from the switch or plip keys has been received
for 120 seconds.
