I have issues with belt squealing on Suzuki swift. The car is a 2005 (new model) 1.3 petrol. Just before Christmas the original 9 year old belt started to squeal and snapped, I replaced the belt and squealing persisted, a week later the replacement belt snapped and another new belt was fitted persuming the replacement must have been faulty. It has since gone again and the squealing is constant, trigger by full steering lock. I have changed the water pump and the belt is still squealing, I am now faced with new alternator, new battery, new power steering pump or power steering fluid. Does anyone have any advice?
Belts squeal for only 2 reason
it's bad. the belt.
or the accessorym it drives is Seized.
i guess you never head of a 5buck stethoscope
and listen to the accessory bearings, ah, alternator front and rear
i hear, front crying for help. easy as child play.
sold everywhere cars parts are sold.
there is no need to guess, , answer use tools.
this was true in 1920 and now, belts then and now all can squeal.
in the old days we had many belts and could drop them
then comes, SERP belts. one for all.
we dont have 1.3 swifts here, so cant see belt routing.

SOURCE: Whinning Noise when cold.
Timing belts don't while because they don't slip! Could be the water pump/alternator belt.

How do I install the alternator/water pump serpetine belt on my 2001 Grand Vitara V6
SOURCE: When starting car there is a screech/squeal until you pull off
I think that the difficulty in shifting is unrelated to the squeal. I had a '99 Swift that had belt squeal all the time first thing in the morning, and I did not want to tighten the belt too much as it is bad for the alternator and water pump bearings. However, I did figure out a way to make it *******. When the noise happened, I would make the DRLs turn off by pulling the handbrake up just one click, and the noise would immediately cease. If this works for you, then you have identified the problem. It seems as though the alternator loads up too much. Not a big deal though.
As for the shifting, check to see that your clutch cable is properly adjusted. It should not be too loose or too tight, it should be set so that there is about a 1/4 inch of play at the clutch pedal.
Good luck with your Swift, they're great little cars!

have the belts tightened or replaced as they are slipping on the pulleys by the sound of it
