When I first bought the car, it would chirp when I locked the doors with the key fob, and the alarm was a siren. The problem was that the fob was broken and couldn't be attached to the key (and would randomly remotely open the hatchback, too), so I bought a new fob and had it programmed at the dealer. Since I had the new fob put on, the alarm runs through the horn, as does the "alarm set" confirmation when I lock the car with the new fob. How can I switch it back?
Check to see if your vehicle honks when you press the "lock" button on your key fob. Press the "lock" button multiple times in a row. Many devices won't beep unless you double-tap the button after locking. If the horn doesn't honk, but the lights flash, your chirp feature is probably disabled.
Use your keyless fob and ignition key to enable the audible chirp. The process varies considerably on different makes and models. You must usually consult your owner's manual, a dealership or the alarm manufacturer for the correct process.
When I press the lock button a second time, it does beep the horn. I would like it to go back to the alarm chirp instead, since it's shorter and doesn't wake the neighbors.
You may have to consult a dealership or the alarm manufacturer for the correct process. If I knew the alarm manufacturer I could be of more help.
