The solenoid is bad, you have to replace the whole shifter. It can be bypassed, but you need an electrician for cars to do it.

How do I get my car out of park?

If your 1992 Ford Escort is stuck in the park and won't budge, there are a few potential causes and solutions to try. Here are a few possibilities:
  1. Shift interlock solenoid - This is a safety feature that prevents the car from being shifted out of park unless the brake pedal is depressed. The solenoid may be faulty and not release the shift mechanism. A mechanic will need to diagnose and replace the solenoid if necessary.
  2. Ignition switch - The ignition switch may not be sending the proper signal to the shift interlock solenoid, preventing it from releasing the shift mechanism. A mechanic will need to diagnose and replace the ignition switch if necessary.
  3. Linkage - The linkage that connects the shift lever to the transmission may be out of adjustment or damaged. A mechanic will need to diagnose and repair or replace the linkage as necessary.
  4. Transmission - The transmission may have a problem that is causing it to be stuck in park. A mechanic will need to diagnose and repair or replace the transmission as necessary.
  5. Fuse - A fuse related to the shift interlock system may be blown and needs to be replaced.
It's important to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to diagnose the problem and perform the necessary repairs. Some of the issues can be easy to fix, but some require more extensive repairs and knowledge of the systems.

03 jeep liberty stuck in 4 wheel drive and not shifting out of second part time light will not cut of but will go to lo and high what can it be

If you have true 4-wheel drive as opposed to all-wheel drive and you were driving on a dry surface with four wheel drive engaged, you may have "wound up" torque between the front and rear drive trains. This happens because when turning, rear wheels take a shorter route than the front wheels and this difference has to be compensated for either in the transfer case or by slippery or snow covered roads, or it will bind, and the resulting pressure makes moving the selector very hard. You have probably felt this happening ("bucking") to a lesser extent when making tight turns while in 4WD in the past?

If this is the case, all you have to do is jack up the front end - and preferably get both front tires off the ground. The jeep should NOT be running. If it was "bound up," this will release the pressure and you will probably see the front wheels spin a bit. You should then be able to move the selector back to the two-wheel or all-wheel drive position.

Good luck.

Shift lock release

There should two brake switches located above the brake petal, one is designed to activate the rear brake lamp relay, the second would be the park/neutral safety switch which may be defective and failing to activate the shift handle release relay. You can test this by first turn the ignition key forward then jump the two wires behind the switch, you should then hear the transmission shift handle lock release. If this is heard, the switch has failed and requires replacement.

Shift lever locked

Brake switch going bad or shift lock solenoid going bad. The brake switch controls the shift lock solenoid. When you press the brakes it releases the shift lock solenoid to allow movement of the shifter.

this is not on your car but it will give you an idea how the system works.
