Do you observe abnormal idle speed? It may be just an indicator fault; not a really engine firing problem.

HI......
OK. just follow the number on the ignition coils.
And the number on the cylinders are.
The FIREWALL side are 1,3,5, Starting from the belts location.
The RADIATOR side are 2,4,6, Starting from the belts location.
The coil with number 1 go to cylinder 1. as the same way the rest of the coils and cylinders.

OK... I hope this solve your question .

THank you for use fixya.

OK IS THERE IS ACTUALLY A mis-FIRE THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE SHAKING DURING IDLE AND ACCELERATION IF IT IS, here is what you do get a noid light this used to check injector pulse. This vehicle will set a misfire code if injector is not functioning efficiently or bad. A noid light is like a test light bulb can be bought at almost any auto store.SART UP VEHICLE AND DISCONNECT THE INJECTOR WIRE TO THE CYLINDER THAT'S mis-FIRING AND CONNECT noid LIKE TO ELECTRICAL PLUG. DO THIS ONE CYLINDER AT A TIME. The nod light should have a steady flickering light/consistent pattern of flickering. If there is Gap/irratic flickering or no flickering BINGO you have found your problem. NO FLICKERING= bad/broken injector wire if not broken BAD COMPUTER/ECU. IF THE FLICKERING IS CONSISTENT /GOOD = BAD INJECTOR..replace injector and solve the misfire problem. However is all the components tested are ALL GOOD. Then the only other SOURCE for a mis-fire is the camshaft sensor that provides reference for injector pulse and the crankshaft sensor provide reference for Spark pulse. JUST ON A LAST NOTE: make sure all oils are getting electrical power to them. Good Luck I know this is alot of info at once. Contact me if you need more help. Thanks fr using FIX YA

Santa fe sputters from idle

There are a few thing that could cause this to happen, the first thing is that you need to make sure the check engine light is not on, if it is or not still have the computer scanned for any codes, the computer is always watching the operation of the engine and if there is a problem it will store a code and turn check engine light on to warn you of the problem, the code will come out as a set of letters and numbers and tell you were the problem is. it will not tell you whats wrong but just the component that is failing and then with some testing the problem can be found.

the sputtering you speak off could be due to a coil that is bad and causing engine to misfire, or even a vacuum leak or spark plug.
There are many auto part stores that will scan the computer for free and give you the codes, start by having the codes read and then write me back with the codes. Here is an example of a code, let say code po301 cyl 1 misfire , came up as one of the codes.

As you can read it tells you that cylinder # 1 is misfiring, then we would check the coil for that cylinder and the sprak plug first.

make sure to get the complete code, good day.

My check engine light is on, i took it down to have it checked and they said it came up in the computer as a misfire, would that be my spark plugs?

Misfire can be more specifically diagnosed with the engine scanner than they are telling you...The code relating to " multiple engine misfire" usually implies the need for spark plug replacement. A specific code such as # 3 cylinder misfire implies a problem with the spark plug wire or individual coil pak depending on which system you have...Most chain parts stores will offer checking codes for you at no cost...

96 bmw 740il misfire

This is a pretty common problem. I would change your valve cover gaskets. They run around ~ 50 bucks. If they are bad it will leak oil into spark plug well and cause a misfire. Very known on the 740.. Also if tune was not anytime not too long ago id change spark plugs while you at it. Then clear the computer and if you still get misfire on 8 try changing the ignition coil which is right about the cylinder with cylinder ignition coil 5. clear the computer. if you get random misfire and misfire cyclinder 5 after then its your ignition coil. parts store runs around 100 bucks
