How to reset key by putting it in park and ten drive

Start the car, run through all the gears. Put into park and turn off. That should reset it all.

Hi,just food for thought,when you swich off engine and put it in park if you havent tried it already,put foot down on brake peddle and try takeing key out,if not try pressing on brake peddle and switch ignition on and off then see if key comes out.
I have to do this to my car sometimes to get key out hope it works for you.

Not to insult your intelligence but is the shifter all the way in park? You may have an issue with linkage too. Or ignition switch needs replacement, (maxima's are also known for ignition replacement)
Other wise disconnect your car battery for ten min, just leave it sit, after ten min put ur battery cable back on, try ur key again.if you have a spare key work with the drivers door a little with locking and unlocking

neutral safety switch could be loose or faulty or transmission manual shift linkage is out of adjustment.

Something you can try, I don't know if it works for your type of vehicle, turn the ignition on, but try to start it, let it set for ten minutes, turn the ignition off, then try to restart it. you may have to do this procedure three times. on for ten off, on for ten off, on for ten off, do not take the key out of the ignition during this procedure. your security has to relearn the key

the process takes about thirty minutes. in three ten minute key cycles. here is how you do it . make sure that the battery is fully charged. step on parking brake pedal and leave it down this will keep the head lights off. turn the key and try to start it then leave it in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. you will see the security light on. after the ten minutes the light will go off then turn the key to the start position. turn the key all the way back to the off position and count to three. then try to start it and leave the key in the on position for another ten minutes till the security light goes out. you have to do this same process three times to reset the security system. sometimes you get lucky and it will start after the first ten minute cycle.

Here is what you do. make sure the battery is fully charged cause you dont want it to go dead during this process or it wont work. step down on your parking brake pedal and leave it down. this will keep the headlights off during the process so the battery wont go dead. turn the ignition key like you were going to start the car then leave the key in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. during the ten minutes you will see the anti theft or security light flashing or the display in the instrument cluster. when the ten minutes are up the security light will go out. once the light goes out attempt to start the car. if it doesnt start turn the key all the way back to the off position count to three then attempt to start the car then leave the key in the on position another ten minutes till the light stops flashing again. sometimes it takes up to three ten minute cycles to reset the antitheft system. so basically you do the same thing three times leaving the key in the on position for ten minutes each time so it will take approximately thirty minutes. sometimes it will work on the first try though.

You will see the display flashing security in the instrument panel. leave the key in the on position for approximately ten minutes till the security light stops flashing. Then try to start it. If it does not start. Immediately turn the key back to the off position and turn it back to the on position and repeat the ten minute process. Roll down the drivers side window. Close the door. Turn the key to the On position but not cranking. Let it sit there for ten minutes with the key on. After ten minutes turn the key off and then try to start the car. I hope this helps.
