All of my windows (except sunroof) are not working. I bought the 30 mini fuse but the place where it says it is supposed to go does not look like a fuse (under hood by battery) There is a thin rectangular gray battery looking thing in where it says the fuse should go. Should I pull this out? Is that what the fuse is supposed to look like for the power windows?

30 amps seems like a lot for power windows. How did you determine this was the right fuse? Typically, I would expect a 10 amp fuse, and I would expect it to be in the interior fuse panel.

Testimonial: "The manual says to use a 30 mini fuse. Thanks for helping!"

you need a test light, that's a thing like an icepick with a wire clip on it and a light in the handle, any parts store will have several, about 5 bucks

check by clipping the clip to any ground, (Engine block etc) switch on he ignition and touch the sharp point to both sides of ALL fuses and breakers, when you find one with power at ONE end, but NOT BOTH ENDS.

you've got it

Sunroof won't close automatically.

Is the motor receiving power? If not you have to check electrical system to locate the place that is not transmitting power. Could be a fuse/relay, switch, bad connection.

If the motor is turning and nothing happens then the drive mechanism from motor to sunroof is stripped. Not good.

Where is the fuse for the electric window ?

Step one is to check the 30 amp window/sunroof fuse in the underhood fuse box.

Do the windows not work from any of the switches?
Does the dome lamp work?
Does the sunroof work if you have one?
Have you tried swapping the window relay with another one of the same part number? The relays should be labeled on the fuse box covers as to which ones thay are. The relay should be in the right side fuse block in the car.

The windows will not roll down.. Luckily they are not stuck down, but it's getting warm outside and I would love to be able to roll atleast one of them down.. The sunroof stopped working at the same time...

Check your manual for fascia fuse box locations
Three fuse boxes are located
In one sunroof fuse number 30/20amp
In box three, elec windows circuit breaker fuses,
number 3/30amp front windows
number 4/30amp rear windows

The electronic windows in my 1993 BMW 318i do not work. Why?

Try checking the drivers master switch it may be bad and needs to be replaced...if it's bad none of the other door switches will work...the sunroof problem is most likely a fuse problem caused by your son when checking the fuses and either shorted one out or he wasn't looking when he was pulling it out and put it back into the wrong place next to where it's suppose to be.
