If this occurs only with first gear fault seems to be a selector problem. check gear lever bush otherwise internal gearbox fault. Do check oil level and bleed hydraulic system.

need lots more information to determine exactly what the manufacturers ration would be
manual and auto have different ratios as do diesel against petrol have different diff ratios
